With respect specifically to your first question as asked, the OT simply gives the "back story," including prophecies fulfilled by Jesus.

As to your second question, God is the Author of Life (the Creator), and the sole independent universal sovereign.

The OT contains additional prophecies concerning present and future events which, together with the appropriate (corresponding) NT passages, provide an understanding that helps to guide the actions and policies of the Believer.

The Law is moot (in fact, it always was), but it is important as a tool to reveal a person's thoughts and intents: the Believer rejects the absurdities and atrocities prescribed in the Law; the unbeliever usually embraces the Law or tries to use it as a tool to point out the imaginary shortcomings of others.

This is the meaning and significance of Hebrews 4:12, as the Bible is akin to a surplus of rope. The believer skillfully uses the rope to help others to salvation, but the unbeliever ends up hanging himself by it.

Likewise, many take 2 Timothy 3:16 out of context and argue that you should blindly accept everything in the Bible, although certain ascriptions to God regarding His character are clearly blasphemous to any Believer in Christ.

The KJV text of 2 Timothy 3:16 says, "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:" -- HOWEVER, verse 17 says, "That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works."

It's all one sentence, and verse 17 provides the filter through which Scripture ought to be viewed. Especially to the extent it promotes hatred or violence or religiosity, it should be ignored.

All that matters in the end is the degree to which one demonstrated in this life the character of Christ and, like any good son or daughter, honored the parent. It shouldn't take a brainchild to imagine how to honor the Creator.

Genesis also establishes the principle of man's direct subordination to God (not to other men). The OT records that the glory of the Israelites was their adherence to this principle, and that they rebelled and insisted on a king -- so God gave them what they asked for, and then they were like the other nations of the world.

If ever there was a clear argument against organized religion, the OT makes it consistently -- and often reveals the inevitable problems arising from the construction of a hierarchical command structure.

In genesis, you learn how the world was created. There could not be a God if it weren't for Genesis. That pretty much tells us who created the world. The rest of it is important history about the Israelites. Isaiah gives us prophecy about Jesus, that's another way that God proved his word. Because everything he prophesied in the Old Testament came true in the New Testament. It's a tribute to God's character, and shows that He is not a liar. And since He's not a liar, then we know that the things in the New Testament are true.

Verry simple Dear, He is revealed in Genesis as the creator of this world. He is leader and savior of the faithful. He is revealed as being a keeper of promises.

The old testament is more than a bunch of old stories, it tells you about God. It gives examples of the blessings that can happen to you if you are obedient and faithful; think of Enoch, Elijah, Joseph, Daniel and Moses. But it also shows that God means what he says when he says that he will punish the disobedient; read the accountd of the Israelites in the wilderness, King Saul, King Nebuchadnezzar and many others who did not trust God. The Old testament also describes Jesus and the ministry that he was to have. It tells important information of whate is still yet to happen before he returns to resurrect the righteous.

It is foolish to accept only part of the Bible and reject the rest. "All scruipture is profitable for doctrine, reproof and instruction in righteousness.." This was written before the new testament was put together, so it referred mostly to the old testament.

The Old Testament is a sacred record of God's dealings with His covenant people in the Holy Land. It includes the teachings of prophets such as Moses, Joshua, Isaiah, Jeremiah, and Daniel. While you may not see the direct corrilation between the Plan of Salvation and the Old Testament, it is there. All the scriptures are there for a reason. Many of the covenents God has made with us, his children, are found in Old Testament. Furthurmore, most of these prophets testified and continue to testify through the scriptures of the divinity of Christ.

the Old Tenement is very important,
and Genesis is the book of beginnings, it teaches by example.

It is what the Apostles preached from too (there was not New Testament yet)
In Acts 8: 26 - 40 Isaiah is what was preached from

The Old Testament (Contract for Salvation) COULD NOT get those Guys and Gals (Old Testament Saints) BORN-AGAIN (Spirit Recreated) But, they did not die and end up in Hell. The Old Testament Saints Died and were Kept in Paradise (beside of Hell, Separated by a Great Gulf).
When Jesus Died on the Cross and went down into Hell, Later, Jesus went over to Paradise and PREACHED the Word of GOD Concerning the New Testament that HE (Jesus) Just made Possible(by Dying on the Cross).
You Have to Hear the Word of GOD concerning the New Testament (Jesus died for Us) to be Able to Get Born-Again (Spirit Recreated).
Of Course ALL of those Saints in Paradise GOT Born-Again AFTER they Heard Jesus Preach it.

The Bible says that WE are Born-Again by the Incorruptable WORD of GOD. You have to HEAR it to GET Born-Again.
That is the Difference between the Old Testament and the New Testament.
When you get Born-Again, A Real Miracle Happens-----a Real Spiritual Recreation takes Place in your Spirit.
And you don't Lose that Recreated Spirit (Saved Spirit) by Sinning and messing around with Sin.
It takes a Whole Lot to Lose that Recreated Spirit (the Unpardonable Sin) and Baby Christians cannot even Commit it. But they get Sucked into Sin and Trapped by Sin sometimes and the Devil tells them that they Lost their Salvation.
If you Always want to Live for GOD (even though your are Sinning and maybe stuck in a Sin)and be with GOD and Read your Bible and get Back to church (meetings with your Bro.'s and Sis.'s in Christ) you haven't Commited it.
GOD Walked With Adam (Adams Spirit hadn't been Messed Up yet) in Genesis.
When Adam Sinned, Adam Messed Up his Spirit (became LOST), GOD could not Flow through Adam (Spiritually) and had to Remove HIS Presence From Adams Spirit, lest HIS Power Hurt Adam.
Adam passed this Messed Up Spirit to Everybody Else.
Everybody is Born on this Earth Lost.
With out Jesus, we would end up in Hell.

I'll take a shot at that. I've always understood it to be that the old testament, with all its laws, was there to teach us that we couldn't be righteous on our own. So that in the new testament we see our need for a savior. And that is why it Jesus said that those who are well, i.e. the self-righteous, don't need a physician. Only those who are sick, i.e. those who are willing to admit they need a savior and can't be good enough on their own.

What do you mean "how is God relevant in Genesis?" Isn't that chapter all about how GOD CREATED THE EARTH??

What I think is in the old testament God always uses someone he chose to do something special in order to help his children to get on track, But seemingly they all fall short of what God wanted to complete.
That's why God decides to come as Jesus, figuring we aren't perfect, that basically he has to do it himself.

well that's just my perspective on it, basically it just came to me.
God Bless

THE OLD TESTAMENT POINTS TOWARD THE CROSS AND JESUS DEATH AND RESURRECTION.
THRU PROPHESY--

THE NEW TESTAMENT POINTS BACK TO THAT SAME CROSS--WHAT CHRIST DID FOR ME..
THE OLD TESTAMENT IS A MAP THAT SHOW THE TRANSITION OF SALVATION--FROM PATRIARCH TRUST IN GOD THRU ABRAHAM-ISSAC-JACOB TO MOSIAC LAWS UNDER MOSES TO SALVATION BY GRACE--SHED BLOOD OF JESUS CHRIST.

OLD TESTAMENT SHOWS A STEP BY STEP MOVE FROM NO LAWS (SALVATION BY TRUST) TO GRACE-SALVATION BY BELIEVING ON CHRIST.
