I'm sick of being a tired and overweight guy, with lack of energy and no drive to do much except play video games (lol) and eat fast food, I used to play tons of sports and be way more active but now i'm getting older, I want to get fitter and have a more heathy lifestyle, so my question? Whats the first and best step to take?

hi,

1) If you reduce the number of calories you ingest by 500 per day, you will lose about 1 pound per week, on average. This is not hard to do if you switch from soda to to water (or gatorade) for your drink, since just two 12 ounce cans of coke or pepsi just about hits the 500 calorie mark.

2) additionally, try walking with light wrist and/or ankle weights whenever you go anywhere. The added weight won't be too uncomfortable, but you'll be exerting a bit more energy in your daily routine.

3) try to space out your meals into 6 "mini-meals" throughout the day. It costs your body about 100 calories to digest your food, so you burn up ~600 calories just by doing this. Plus you feel full throughout the day and may be more likely to eat a "mini-meal" of veggies if you know your next mini-meal will involve the good stuff :)

good luck friend!

First cut out that fast food. Next drink lots of water. Unfortunately to lose weight you should get at least 60 minutes of cardio (any cardio). You need to get that heart rate up. You need to do that at least five times a week no matter what it is.. You can add weight training later. Once you lose the twenty pounds you will only need to do cardio three times a week to maintain. Park far at stores you go to, take the stairs instead of escalators or elevators, and if a store is not that far from you and you need to get something there, walk don't drive. Eventually your energy will go up. Remember when you start weight training, do arms and abs one day and legs the next day. Don't train the same body parts everyday. To give you something to go on it is said if you get at least 10,000 steps a day, then you've done your cardio for the day. It sounds like a lot, but it's really not. Get a pedometer. Remember we are creatures of habit and even though it's hard to get started, if you discipline yourself at the beginning eventually it will become habit and easy to do. Good luck!

Get out and walk for a half hour every day and build up to an hour. Don't change your eating habits yet. Just that walking will burn off 20 pounds in about 6 months or so. (This is the any food diet, I've dropped 15 pounds since April on it.)

Your doctor can give you better advice on diet and advanced exercise.

Fisrt you have to set up an execising and eating schedule. Execise at leat 3 times a week. No carbs after 4 o'clock. Eat a lot of protein like fish, and drink lots of water. I ate whatever i wanted but little of it. stop eating when you feel full. And, NO JUNK FOOD, that includes fast food. this is how i got in shape. So, good luck. If you have enough self control, you can do anything.

try to stay away from the fast food as your first step. maybe you could join the gym or buy some free weights for home. muscle helps you burn fat!!! Also try to be more active. go for a walk take your dog if you have one if not maybe you should get one. Start slow and you'll make progress. good luck!
