Stray cats eat birds, rabbits, mice, bugs, bits of food found in the trash, anything they can find that is edible to survive!

Stray cats will eat anything that they can get their paws on that is alive; from birds to crickets to moles.
At my house, since we have a cat door that our cats come in and out of, we get a stray cat who comes into the house and eats the leftover cat food that our cats don't finish during the day. We named him My Precious after the One Ring in The Lord of The Rings.
So basically, if you leave out cat food and water for the stray, you will see him come nightly and soon he will show up during the daytime looking for the food that is handed out at night.

First off, I would say don't feed stray cats. They can be very nasty and carry diseases (if you have a cat that is an outside cat it can also attack/hurt your cat and spread disease, not to mention get your cat pregnant *if your cat is female and not spayed)
Second, if you do feed a stray keep it simple, dry cat food. Of course where I live leaving food out attracts other animals, such as opposums, skunks and in some cases bears.

In a word...anything. Stray cats will eat anything because they know it is food. That means things that are good for them AND things that are bad. Many cats die each year getting their heads stick in jars or the plastics that hold six packs. Others die from drinking antifreeze because it tastes sweet to them and they need water. (there is a movement to get antifreeze companies to make it taste bitter again...it wouldnt cost the companies much to do this again..and it helps humans as well)

Everything from mice to garbage. Some go from house to house as well and eat cat food from other outdoor cats or adopt a family for a while before they move on.

Garbage...anything they can find lying around. I also think some people will leave food out sometimes when they see a stray. They don't want to take it in but they'll leave a little food.

Well, I saw a stray cat at Long John Silver's last Friday night. He had a few of his buddy's with him and they got the family platter.
