I like to volunteer at homeless shelters. They are hungry and the shelters always need food donations and help cooking and serving the food. While you are at it, this time of year, the homeless really need to stay warm too. Its not feeding, but perhaps its just as good to help them out with an old coat or pair of gloves? It makes a world of difference to a person.

Ignore judith, she obviously doesn't live in the same america as the rest of us--I think it's wonderful what you're doing and I agree with the first poster about the salvation army--also, the catholic church has food shelves and soup kitchens too, so you might want to ask them--it's horrible that all I have to tell you are churches that you don't got to, but they do help the needy

Call your local food pantry or homeless shelter.
If you call various churches/social organizations in your community I am sure that you will find at least one that has a food pantry or a meal program.
Check "Meals on Wheels".
Don't just "give money", like the pharisees, give of yourself, either by pitching in at a meal program or buying the food yourself and donating it to the pantry (Call them first to see what they need).

Why don't you start with the local food distribution centers in your neighborhood. Or you could check with the food kitchens for the poor and I am sure they would welcome whatever help you can give. Check under the phone book in your area for shelters and ask them where you can put your money or time to work.

I believe second harvest accepts monetary donations, and the mass majority of the money they take in actually goes to charity, not just to pay employees like many religiously based ones.

Your best bet it to look in the phone book for your local foodbank or soup kitchen. To check out a charity you can check with your local Better Business Bureau or www.charitynavigator.org.
