OAP abuser, rape, murder same thing as above really. How many paedophile/murder crimes are a 2nd offence? just a case of the justice rehabilatation system letting socioety down!

I think the American people need to have a national vote on the subject of death penalty. This cannot be chosen by a few persons sitting in an office they only use 130 days out of a year.
If a death penalty is ok'd by the people, then UNIFORM punishment, and measures need to be adopted.

It's all too easy to say, "Yes" to this one. If I was personally affected, then I'd be baying for blood like the next man. However, we have to consider what has made them do it. Everyone KNOWS how abhorrent these crimes are, so people must be ill to commit them. No NORMAL person would abuse a child, etc. Is it right to punish somebody because they are ill? Of course not. When we start doing that , we lower ourselves to the level of the person we are condemning.
For that reason, and for the fact we can never be 100% sure (a confession could be made under duress or the alleged perpetrator could be mental), I would not sign a petition for the death penalty.
For your information, I'm a father to three girls and grandad to 7.

Fact one: The death penalty is not a deterrent. States with the death penalty have higher murder rates then those that don't
Fact two: The cost of life imprisonment and the death penalty have been calculated. The death penalty costs more, due to more complicated trials.
Fact three: Innocent people HAVE been executed. So much for "100% evidence", which there NEVER is.
So, you want a non-deterrent that costs more and kills innocent people so you can feel better that you've "done something" about it? Knee-jerk reactions don't work.

No actually I don't think I would. I don't know what we would do with them. I don't think the jail system works well at all. No-body has the right to kill another human unless mutual consent has been given i.e. between husband and wife when one is seriously ill and doesn't wish to be revived. I do think that the punishment should fit the crime but there is no way to tell if someone did or didn't do something. This is a huge debate and if we ever get the chance to pose suggestions to Parliament that mean anything I will stand with you and state a case!

Absolutely! I once ran a petition on the same subject, but I was over zealous and didn't get the amount of support I had predicted.
Did well though. However the Labour/Blair governemt didn't take heed to what I had to say!

No sorry i wouldn't, although some evil people might deserve it i don't believe in it. No one should have the right to take a life. Gandhi was spot on when he said ' an eye for an eye and we would all be blind'
Throw away the key I say.

YES!!But for them it's the easy way out, prisons should be 6x4black floor, walls, ceilings, cells a simple breakfast and simple tea and lights out at 6.00pm, would'nt cost the tax payer millions and payback would be administered to the guilty.

Yes I would,
Someone in my family has been the victim of a paedophile and the misery it has caused is indescribable.
Those pieces of filth don't deserve life.
