My daughter is 12 and still plays with barbie dolls. I think this is far too old, do you agree? If so, how can I make her stop.

If it were my child I would leave it alone it keeps her occupied and out of trouble is the way I would look at unless she is like 16 and still at home instead of out with friends then I would get worried. I would ask if she has other friends that do the same thing it might be a group thing that is what they do as a group. If so she is fine, she is fine either way. I stopped playing with barbies shortly after I was 12 so it probably won't go on much longer, I don't even remember friends going past that age. Once she goes to middle school or getting further in middle school she will start noticing boys then you gotta problem there.

Kids are forced to grow up too soon as it is. If she likes playing with Barbie dolls, then let her. There's nothing wrong with it. There could be much worse things she could be getting into. Be glad that she wants to be 12......and not acting like a 20 y/o in a 12 y/o's body.

No. When I was 12 I played with Barbies, but I guess times are different now-a-days, now 12 year olds have sex and do drugs!!!

Leave her alone, there is nothing wrong with it, don't wish for your little girl to grow up too fast. Be happy she plays with Barbies at home instead of going out and getting knocked up.

Be thankful that she's playing with barbies and not with the little boys penis across the street. Or with drugs and alcohol and cigerettes for that matter. I played with barbies till I was about 13 and I still have a huge collection of ones in boxes. Don't make her grow up too fast, just enjoy her childhood.

I played with Barbie until I was 14 or 15. Just be happy would you rather her out there looking for a boyfriend or worse. Girls (and Boys) these days are growing up fast, feel lucky your daughter is still playing and not doing other things.

I totally agree with everyone above. Kids aren't kids anymore, the pressure around them is huge, and if parents are trying to make their kids stop playing at the age of 12 (that way increasing the pressure), then I don't know where this world is going to. I played with all kinds of toys until I was 13 or 14 but grew out if it, I'm sure your daughter will do that too.

Leave her alone for now. If she's 18 and playing with Barbie dolls, then you can worry. Really, don't you remember the dilemma of still liking your dolls but wondering if you were too old to play with them? I can remember having that conversation with friends when we got to Jr. High. My one friend wanted to know if she was weird for still liking her Barbie's, and then we all ended up confessing to still liking our dolls but not being sure if we should still play for them. And we were all feeling embarrassed, like people would think we were weird for still liking our dolls, it was a relief to know others felt the same.

I don't think she is to old. And as far as that goes, lots of women collect barbie dolls. Anyway, let your daughter play with them. Most kids grow up to darn fast today. I say good for her. I wouldn't worry about it - after all, she is only 12 yers old.

do you know how many parents of 12 year olds wish their daughters would still play with Barbies! You should be happy she's not having sex!

I think it's perfectly normal and healthy for a 12 year old to play with Barbies. At least she's not out drinking or smoking or having sex with guys. Let her keep her innocence. If it makes her happy, that's all that should matter.
