Let's say the island of Ciciliy was inhabited by the Borg when the Muslims invaded it with their swords. Would the Muslims have any chance of converting the non-believers, or would the Muslims become Borg?

Would the borg have stayed on the island though? I don't think you can invade borg territory, you merely defend them attacking you. With swords I think they're pretty much screwed against particle weapons and assimilation techniques employed by the collective.

3 main stages . . .
first, it would seem like the muslims would be winning, as they would kill a few Borg with their swords after they failed to assimilate.
second, it would appear that the Borg were winning, because they would adapt and use force fields, and capture all the muslims to convert them to Borg.
third, when the muslims were on the Borg ship, and the Borg went to convert them, something would go wrong. The Muslims belief in Allah could not be erased from their cells, so they would gain the collective consiousness and technology of the Borg, but the Borg would become Muslim.

LOL! The Muslims would become Borg. Though I'm not sure they'd be of interest to the Borg because the Borg have some guidelines for those societies they assimilate and those they simply eliminate, don't they? :) They seek technology and intelligence to assimilate. It seems to me they'd have no use for the Muslims, except the really brainy ones.

Hard to say, were the borg that advanced 1200 years ago (1600 years before captain picard was born.)? I guess you can assume they were more advanced than musllms were back then. Guess my money's on the borg.
