The One True God authentically gave mankind, including you and me, through His most recent Messenger, all the answers to any questions we wish to ask from now for at least one thousand years. Please seek them in the Holy Books which are now easily accessible on the Internet. If we cannot understand His holy verses, we can ask His authoritative Interpreters. None can directly asks God anything, but we can only ask questions through His Divine Messengers and Interpreters.
People are creating some so-called mysterious ways to directly contact God and they imagine all sorts of statements which they blasphemously attribute to Him. For this, we can verify through the Holy Books. See how the Christian denominations are accusing each other for altering the contents of the Bible.
In fact, it is really difficult to distinguish truth from falsehood; but God promises that He always guide those who sincerely seek for Him. Yes, each human being can find the truth for his own self, and only the Prophet receives all truth for the mission of educating the whole human race.
Please seek and you will find as divinely promised.

I would ask Him to help me understand why some of the things happened in my life that i can't seem to make any sense out of....

I would ask him "why?" and the answer i would probally get would be "why not?" So i would have to spend some time thinking of a good question, one that i would get a definite answer to about the 'why's' of everything. i think life is one big question, and the answer comes right before u die, but then you die and it dosent matter anymore....
life's strange, eh..

Why did God let us sin when we were already in a perfect world? Why did he give us a choice? Why couldn't he save us from the whole problem?

Dear lord, Why oh why did you create me? Why did you see fit to put me on this evil, mean world full of wicked, selfish people? Why did you not leave me where I was before my spirit was summoned to this world? Why did you choose to bring me into a world where I am a born sinner?

This is what I would ask.
