actually, it's called the yolk. an egg is an unfertalized fetus, and the yolk is the term for the unfertelized fetus. the white of the egg is the same as amniotic fluid in a human pregnancy.

White sounds a lot better than albumen. The yolk is called that because it is yolk.

I do not know, probably yolk is derived from yellow....
In many other languages, they use indeed egg-white and egg-yellow.

I'm pretty sure the white is also known as the albumen. But I could be wrong and I'm too lazy to Google it to check!
