Depend on the size and content. You can pay just about anything, or, rather, find prices ranging from outlandishly high to ridiculously low, all up to the artist and his/her stage in life. I am guessing you have something specific in mind. Be as detailed in your descrption as possible but allow for artistic license. It will be rare that someone will be able to capture YOUR vision exactly as YOU you experience it.

I usually charge by the gig and depending what's involved as far as detail, color or black and white, what media, ect.
