She just needs to go to a sleep lab for a one night sleep study! They will hook her up to monitors and find out if it is sleep apnea or whatever it is! Sleep apnea can be FATAL!
Anyway a sleep apnea on an overnight or part of the night study can determine her problem and a doctor can prescribe the proper treatment to follow. A doctor without a study will just be HIT AND MISS and a study will find out if she has any kind of problems anywhere!
I went and I highly recommend that she go! I have sleep apnea but I did NOT know it!
Talk to a sleep center in your area!
Good Luck it does sound like ME!

COuld be narcolepsy..a mild form She needs to see a physician to be diagnosed but i have it and it just like that.
Narcolepsy is a frequent disorder: it is the second leading cause of excessive daytime sleepiness diagnosed by sleep centers after obstructive sleep apnea. Studies on the epidemiology of narcolepsy show an incidence of 0.2 to 1.6 per thousand in European countries, Japan and the United States, a frequency at least as large as that of Multiple Sclerosis. In many cases, however, diagnosis is not made until many years after the onset of symptoms. This is often due to the fact that patients consult a physician after many years of excessive sleepiness, assuming that sleepiness is not indicative of a disease.

Sounds like she is having sleep apnea. She needs to make an appointment with her dr and see about having a sleep study. What happens with sleep apnea is the person quits breathing (usually due to some obstruction) and they stop breathing. Their oxygen level can drop due to this. A good sign of this is cronic snoring.
The sleep study will determine if this is causing the sleep problems. Ususally CPAP is given to wear at night via a nasal mask. This forces extra air in and helps with the obstruction.

I have had a similar problem my whole life and the other day learned about Delayed Sleep Phase Syndrom. I do the same thing. Going to bed at midnight is like asking a normal person to go to bed at 5pm. and around 4 - 6 am is when I fall asleep. I am 34 now and I have just learned to deal with it.

It could be narcolepsy, or an overprodution of melanin. You can look more up about her symptoms at webmd.com. It is a great website run by doctors, and I use it all the time. But, it sounds like she needs to talk to a doctor as soon as she can. This disorder could be a sign of something more serious, and it could become disruptive to her normal day.

It sounds like she has Narcolepsy. Look into Web MD .com and see what it may suggest. She needs to go to a medical doctor who can give her some help with this. It is a condition of the brain. It is a problem in the Hypothalamus. There is medication for it. IT is similar to depression.

narcolepsy
Despite the perception that people with narcolepsy are perpetually sleepy, they do not typically sleep more than the average person...Narcolepsy patients sleep a normal amount but cannot control the timing of sleep.

take her to a sleep specialist where they can monitor her sleeping habits. Maybe something is wrong in the brain. I have heard of something like that before and it was something in the brain. If I were you I would take mom to the doctor.

difficulty waking is usually related to a lack of oxygen. She may have a respiratory deficit, or even a form of apnea...suggest she discuss it with her physician and have a sleep study done.

I would suggest you take her to go see a dcotor,
there might be something wrong with her , this way the doctor can give her something, or do a series of test, or cat scans.
Good luck !
