Everyone tells me how incredibly cute AND smart my daughter is and they all swear that she is the Gerber baby. I was never one to involve any of my kids into anything like that but I feel that I may be passing up a chance for her to try this thing out. I just want her to be able to do it for fun and am not really worried too much about the money part and don't want her to be a kid actor who's life has gotten all messed up. Anyway, with that said, where should I start. I live in a small city. The closest city is Detroit and that's about 45 minutes away. When I search online, all i get is people saying I have to pay to sign up, etc which is a scam.

To arnold, i dont understand how you think this is more for me than for my child. i stated in my original post that i didnt want it to go too far. just for her to do this for fun. its not a big deal to me either way. im far from a pageant mom as they are portrayed on tv.

I too had the "Gerber Baby", and she did indeed book plenty of jobs print modeling when she was in that stage (and after it). My 3 children have all been commercial print models at one point in their lives, and so am I. First and foremost - it's a JOB for YOU, not always fun and very hectic sometimes. 45 minutes is nothing - start in Detroit. My closest agents in FL were 3 hours away and so were the jobs. The pay at first will most likely not even cover your gas or hotels if needed (depending on distance and call times). You start by submitting snapshots (taken by you or someone you know) to the agents. 2-3 will do. One good headshot and 2 full body, hopefully showing some "personality". Submit them with your name, phone number, address and stats of the child. (hair color, eye color, clothing & shoe size, date of birth). If they're interested they'll call you in for an interview. YOU will then be responsible for getting your comps, but if it's an infant you won't need comps, just some 5x7 headshots updated frequently (as the baby changes her "look"). Depends also how old your daughter is. My one daughter started in NYC at 14 months, because NY has a need for baby models. In FL where I lived for the next 13 years, they didn't want anyone under 3 PERIOD! Sooo, my next daughter started at 3. Best place to find reputable agencies is thru SAG (Screen Actors Guild) www. sag.com Just be prepared to drive a lot, not make a lot at first (unless she books a national commercial). It can be very fun, and it can be very stressful depending on the hiring company, which is why my kids have taken a "break" for the past 3 years to just be "kids". Now they want to start again, and I'm hesitant because like I said , it's WORK!!!

I had people tell me the same thing about my daughter. Think about how many Gerber babies their are out there. That being said, look for companies that have names you reconize. Children never need expensive pictures. Go to companies like Sears and Walmart and ask them who they hire their models from, and start from there. Good Luck!

Take her to a reputable and bona fide agent in Detroit if that's the nearest city to you. If they are interested, they will front the money for headshots--you just pay it back after your child's first job. Just be careful--sitting for hours at go-sees and auditions just to be rejected can be very tiring, and is rarely fun.

You need to first wake up to what you are doing. This sounds more for you than for the child.
