this may sound disgusting but its true...the area just below the tail on the animals backbone when scratched, rubbed etc stimulates their genitals. The same way that a cat hikes up their rear when you scratch it

Because that's the one area they can't reach when it itches ! Both my sisters labs do the same thing. Give 'em a scratch on the rear now and then and you've got a friend for life ! :D

Because it feels good to her. That is the only area on a dog that they can not reach to scratch.

im sure she is just smiling at you to tell you that it feels good. It's like when you can't reach a spot on your back to itch, and u have someone else itch it, doesn't it make u smile? well have a nice time with your lab!:D p.s. i luv golden retrievers!

Mine does when she really loves something (it's usually accompanied by a smile). If she isn't protesting, my best guess is it is because she loves it. My puppy protests when I try to STOP petting her.
