My kitten is about 12 weeks old. I got him from a friend who got him from a friend. Supposedly one kitten of the litter was diagnosed with feline leukemia. And supposedly all the rest of the kittens, mine included, tested negative. I took him to the vet at 8-9 weeks for a normal checkup (distemper shots etc...) and they retested him for leukemia since by him being so young that he could have shown a false negative result. This test also came back negative. They want to do one more later just to be safe. He also had roundworm. Here is my worry, this is the second day I have noticed that he has diahrrea. No other symptoms to speak of, he has not eaten anything different that I am aware of either. I have read that diahrrea is one of the symptoms for leukemia. Am I overreacting?? Or should I be concerned?? I called my vet and if it does not clear up they want to see him tomorrow. Should I be concerned????

If he has roundworms that can cause diarrhea. Even after being dewormed once your kitten could still have roundworms and may need to be dewormed again. Contact your vet for further advice

First of all your kitten might not have feline leukemia and besided if it does, do not listen to the vet and get your kitty euthenized. I have had cats that have had feline leukemia they can live a decent life span in a healthy indoor home. It is said if they make it past their first year then they have a better chance. Also diarreah is quite common in kittens, but if it turns very very runny like liquid almost them get to the vet, especially if there is weight loss, this does not mean your kitty has leukemia this can mean many different things. Good luck! I hope all turns out well

I lost my kitty cat 20 years ago to feline leukemia.
Some of his 'symptoms' toward the end...
He became weak (couldn't jump high) and he started losing his back leg muscles. He hid under my bed in a suitcase and couldn't control his bladder anymore.
It ripped my heart out. I still ache over him.
Get your kitty leukemia shots no matter how expensive they are!
Every time we went to the vet, I ignored those posters.
The kitty I have now was also tested negative and the vet advised me to convert her into an indoor cat.
(Which I have done happily.)
Then you won't need the shots.
Plus my kitty is an only 'child'. LOL.
So, she will never get that horrid disease.
Please get him shots or keep him inside.

Of course!!!!!!!!!!!!! Call your vet and tell him that you know that diahrrea is one of the symptoms for leukemia. Go immediately so that the kitty can have a test and a check-up. Good luck!

you wouldn't believe how stressful it is to an animal when they go through a lot of changes.....Take the kitty to the Vet per request. Also don't feed the kitty moist only cat food. Go ahead and put it on dry kitten Chow. Moist CAN upset the delicate system. If kitty had worms and they gave it something, it's entirely possible that it's just had a reaction to the meds. Don't panic.....stay calm and you'll get through this......

Is his stool watery or just loose? In other words, does it form a pile but is soft? Or is it liquid?
If it's just soft stool, it is probably not a problem. As mentioned above, vaccinations, dewormer, change in food and environment, all can cause tummy trouble.
If his activity level is normal, he is eating and drinking normally and not vomiting, then you probably don't have anything to worry about. I am glad you are concerned about his health and that you are doing the right thing by actually taking him to the veterinarian if the loose stool continues. I hope he is fine and that all turns out well.
Best of luck to you.

I noticed that after my kitten comes home from the vet after having shots that she doesn't want to eat. She does get diarrehia. I would call your vet and explain what is going on and if they are concerned they will have you bring the kitten in. My kitten also had roundworm and she took a medicine and it was overwith. Goodluck!

for future reference its always cheaper in the long run to adopt one who is all up to date on vet stuff and has health guarantess than to take a free one and go though all of this...
diahrrea could be from worms or food change or poor food or too rich food.. or milk (cats should never have milk)
you can give pepto to cats but talk to your vet first....
good luck

I have cats myself and I can tell you that with some breeds, siamese in particular, this is pretty common. This may also result from a change in diet or food so I wouldn't sweat it if the tests are coming back clean.

no u r not over reacting. i would be like this too if my cat was llike this. my cat had diahreah when we bought him this really expensive food. so we had to change it too science hill food. it worked! another reason is that when the doctor x-rayed him, he found out that he ate some of his own cat litter. my doctor also recommended that give him warm water. Not cold.. Try going to the vet tomorrow and see whats going on!!
good luck :D
