My niece is 3 years old. She picks up anything and everything and it goes right in her mouth. Before anyone says anything negative she has something wrong with her and we have not gotten a diagnosis yet. I stand over her all the time yet she is so quick. Today she picked up a field mouse that one of the cats killed and put it in her mouth. I washed her up real good and used hand sanitizer. I also put some mouth wash on a q tip and cleaned her mouth real good. I believe I did everything right, but is there anything else I should do? Is there anyway to get her to understand that she shouldnt do this? I have tried everything that the doctors told me to do, but it dont seem to be helping any. Other then this she is the sweatest lil girl. Thanks for you help in advance.

Well, I think you did everything right, that's about all you can do. You might want to call her pediatrician and ask if she should be put on antibiotics, "just in case." You sound like you are a good and supportive aunt, keep being there for her. And never blame yourself. No matter how carefully we watch our kids, there are times when they get themselves into things. Just keep being vigilant, that's all you can do. And you can have a dialog with her. Show her pictures of things and ask her if those things go in her mouth. Show her some appropriate to put in your mouth things, and some things which are not appropriate to put in your mouth, even get a picture of a field mouse! Good Luck.
P.S. - Most States have some kind of services that provide developmental evaluations and intervention if problems are discovered. In fact, I think every state is required to provide such services. Her pediatrician should know where you can go to get her evaluated. I know you might have already done that, I thought I'd put it on here just in case.

If I were in your position, I would call her pediatrician to see if she needs any special shots to protect her from anything she may have picked up from the mouse (rabies, tetanus, etc.). With regards to getting her to not put things in her mouth, that is a hard one. My only suggestion would be to get an assortment of things that are very bad tasting but harmless (like a bar of Ivory soap big enough that she cannot choke on it?) and put them out where she can find them. Instruct her not to put them in her mouth because it is not safe to put things in our mouths that are not food. Then, when she does so anyway and gets a yucky-tasting surprise, let her know again that you tell her not to put things in her mouth for a reason. If it is truly a medical condition, it may not be something she can overcome without medical intervention or therapy. Hopefully, it is a phase that she will soon grow out of.

Best of luck, and I hope she has no adverse effects from the mouse!

I think you've done everything you can do at this point. Next thing is to see if she gets sick. If so then take her to the doctor for antibiotics.

If the mouse was recently killed then there is a good chance that she will not get sick. However, there are a number of bacteria that could possibly cause an intestinal infection. You'll know in a few days.

The cat is in discomfort. Get him right into a room and close the door. Use a bathtub towel to obtain him, wrap him up in it with the tail out, and carry his body below your arm or between your knees to apply both hands to get the capture off. If the tail is bent, which ability the bones are damaged and also you want to get the vet to envision how undesirable the damage is. do not assume the tendons and bones are ok. Tail injuries are truly painful for cats. i desire you talk to the three year old about this.
