My advice is take a fight to Newark. That way you'll have easier access to Jersey City by way of NJ Transit and the PATH Train. Newark Airport to Journal Square Step 1: take the Airtrain Newark from the terminal to the Newark Airport station on the NJ Transit North East Corridor Line. Step 2: at Newark Airport station, take a New York, Hoboken, or Newark-bound train to Newark Penn Station. Step 3: at Newark Penn Station, take the PATH train bound for the WTC to Journal Square. Total travel time about 30 minutes. And the fare is cheaper than a taxi. I hope this was very helpful, enjoy your trip. Native New Yorker

There is no such thing as a cheap cab ride in NYC. If you flew into JFK, you can use the Airtrain, which links up with The LIRR. The Long Island Rail Road goes right into Midtown Manhattan. Under Madison Square Garden in fact.

They both charge a flat fee from either airport. I think its like 35 dollars, but its been a few years since I moved out, so it may be different now.

LGA would be cheeper, but it depends on the time of day and the Traffic.
Newark can be cheeper via cab than JFK.
