How To Make Chapati Dough

2016-11-13 03:15:06 · answer #4 · answered by ? 4 · 0 0

Add a tablespoon of cooking oil to the four when making the dough.
Use water as hot as you can bear the heat of when mixing by hand.

The best flour is Chapati Flour, found in Indian Grocery stores – and now from online Indian grocery stores. The next best flour is obtained from health food stores, whole wheat pastry flour.

Serving: 2 people (8 rotis)

Ingredients
1 cup chapati or whole wheat pastry flour
½ cup water
Ghee or Olive Oil
That’s it!

Utensils
rolling pin
wooden cutting board
frying pan, wok or Indian wok

Directions
A) Preparing
1. Mix the flour and water together in a bowl (add more water or flour as needed); Knead flour until is well mixed
2. Break into 8 – 10 separate ‘golf-ball’ sized balls
3. Roll the dough in your palms until completely round
4. Sprinkle some extra dough on the rolling board and then flatten a dough ball.
5. Roll out the dough in a round, thin pancake shape about 4-5 inches diameter. (In lieu of seeing an example of thinly rolled out dough, experimenting will determine the correct thinness)

B) Cooking
1. Heat the pan on a medium to high flame
2. When pan is heated lower flame to medium and place a roti on the pan.
3. When the roti becomes around halfway dry, flip over. (If you did everything right to this point, the roti will puff up into a ball. If this happens, the roti is now ready to eat).
4. If roti doesn’t puff up, keep flipping until pancake is at least halfway cooked. Then remove pan and place pancake on flame and flip every 5 seconds. Roti may puff up. If not, remove when it looks cooked (but not dry).

C) Final Steps
Once cooked, place on a plate and spread some ghee over the top. Add some rock salt (sindav namak) for extra taste.

Enjoy

if u have cooker u put the flour without adding wated or anything in a pan and pour some wated in the cooker and put the pan inside and close the lid . donot put the weight. after three minuted take out the flour add some salt and wated and mix them with a spoon( it will be hot). and the dough will become soft. Another method add hot wated with the flour and mix it. also u can add some curd or ghee too to make it soft. MIXING THE DOUGH IS THE KEY THING . The mixture should be soft and when u roll them springle flour upon it and roll and it will not be sticky.

use warm milk instead of water. chapatis will be softer & tastier .add little oil or ghee to the dough in the end so that it does not stick to your hands.
