What does properly take care of mean to you?
Are we talking about kids going hungry, medical needs not taken care of and parents not around.
I came from a large family without welfare involved, yes we wore hand me downs, gardened, had chores and lots of love. Out of this large family came a doctor, scientist, owner of a car dealership, military family, and owner of a real estate company.
We had part time jobs in high school and we are raising our families with the same values. So, large families can be a wonderful life.

A welfare check and a big tax return! That people like me pay for! Besides that I have know clue! But I think it's very sad because the children suffer! I have an ex sister in law that had 4 all within 5 years and they ended up in foster care because she was hooked on meth! And even before she started doing drugs she was a worthless mom! The kids were always dirty, sick, and never clothed properly! But you better believe she never went without! I can't stand people like that, they are a waste of oxygen!

well, i have 4 kids and want 2 more. We are not, and have never been on welfare. People need to stop thinking that just because someone has a large family they are collecting welfare checks! We live normal just like anyone else and pay for everything ourselves. If someone is one welfare and cannot fend for themselves, have no plans of ever changing their income status, etc., then i have no idea why they would put that stress on themselves. Maybe they like the help they receive or the attention. It seems like aot of stress. But i sure hope you are assuming everyone w/ alot of kids is on welfare! Large families are a blast! :)

I have wondered that myself.
My wife's parents had nine children before they figured out what was causing it.
Some people's religion forbids contraception, some religions go further and make large familes mandatory. For example, I have heard that in the Mormon heaven, women are eternally pregnant.
And some people subscribe to the expression, "We make love, God makes the children".
And some people simply want a large family.

Love, a close family, kids who grow up unselfish because they're used to looking out for each other, kids who value people over stuff, kids who take care of what they have because it may not be replaced...
As long as kids are fed, housed, and clothed- even if it's hamburger helper instead of steak, sharing bedrooms instead of having your own, and wearing hand-me downs instead of designer lables- what's the problem?
Welcoming children is a sign of a generous spirit.

i think the welfare thing is just a huge stereotype because people dont get much from public assistance anyway. the reason is because people fail to use birth control. another reason is alot of people are against adoption AND abortion! so they have no choice but to have the child and with our economy being so bad, times get rough and they end up on public assistance.

I don't know. They think it's easy to have a lot of kids and I personally
have enjoyed the fact that I was an only child. Some kids get the middle child syndrom. I never understand why they have so many kids.

they gain debt, instability, a host of family, social and economic problems not to mention a strong possibility of being under educated due to financial burdens...but they also gain close bonds a large family support system, greater teamwork and interpersonal skills not to be confused with parenting skills because not all large families have the necessary skills...some have a severe inability to parent one human let alone a house full..but it boils down to organization, communication and discipline.

I think they believe they will be loved by having so many children, and or the love of the person they're having a child with.

they are too stupid to use birth control, too selfish to give their children up for adoption, or they like the benefits from welfare.
edit: Just wanted to point out that you did NOT say everyone with a large family was on welafre. My grandparents had 10 kids....grandpa worked hard to provide for them. This is when they didn't have the working class pay other people's way.
