You might call your local shelter and see if they have recommendations, or advice...My vet charges $40

May I go now
Don't you think the time is right?
May I say good-bye to pain-filled days
and endless lonely nights?
I've lived my life and done my best,
an example tried to be,
So can I take that step beyond
and set my spirit free?
I didn't want to go at first.
I fought with all my might!
But something seems to draw me now
to a warm and loving light.
I want to go! I really do!
It's difficult to stay.
But I will try as best I can
to live just one more day .
To give you time to care for me
and share your love and fears.
I know you're sad and are afraid
because I see your tears.
I'll not be far, I promise that,
and hope you'll always know
that my spirit will be close to you
wherever you may go.
Thank you so for loving me.
You know I loved you too.
That's why it's hard to say good-bye
and end this life with you.
So hold me now, just one more time,
and let me hear you say,
because you care so much for me,
you'll let me go today.

If you are looking for an inexpensive procedure call your local humane society they usually charge $30 to $40, but it is not as personal as paying a higher price and having a vet do it...Usually at the humane society you just drop of your dog and they do so many euthanizations daily, at the vets office you can actually be in there with the dog when the procedure takes place....My comments are based on an experience I just went through with my brother and his 13 year old dog..He was having a tough time with the whole stituation so I made all the phone calls and got all the details....So sorry you have come to those crossroads...Good Luck!

They all are right .. Take your beloved pet to a vet and he or she will do what is needed. On the norm they will give them a shot that will just allow the old fella to go to sleep ..
I am so sorry that you have to go through the pain of losing your family friend . You were blessed with 15 years of compainionship please consider honoring your pet by adopting a rescue animal who could use the same love that you gave....

IF IT SHOULD BE

If it should be that I grow weak And pain should keep me from my sleep,

Then you must do what must be done, For this last battle cannot be won.

You will be sad, I understand. Don't let your grief then stay your hand.

For this day, more than all the rest, Your love for me must stand the test.

We've had so many happy years. What is to come can hold no fears.

You'd not want me to suffer so; The time has come -- please let me go.

Take me where my need they'll tend, And please stay with me till the end.

Hold me firm and speak to me, Until my eyes no longer see.

I know in time that you will see The kindness that you did for me.

Although my tail its last has waved, From pain and suffering I've been saved.

Please do not grieve -- it must be you Who had this painful thing to do.

We've been so close, we two, these years; Don't let your heart hold back its tears.

If you really love your dog, you won't put it down. Would you put down your parents if they got old. Just love him/her, it could live for many more years I had a dog that lived till 25. Putting down a dog is just not right, it should be illegal in my opinion. If it's in pain give it medicine to help the pain. How do you know it's in pain? Most older dogs slow down and appear in pain, but they are not.

If your dog is in really bad shape a vet will put the animal down for you. You may also stay with him/her if you wish. One injection and in minutes they are on that journey. It isn't cheep, average pay is between 60 and a $100.00. If this is to much for you your local dog pound will do it for approx. 20.00. I am so sorry for your loss. This is not a easy thing to do but is humane.

Take the poor thing to the vet and they'll give her a shot for pain and then another to end her life; Why not get her cremated and have her put in an urn?

Why are you making him suffer? Go to the vet and put the dog down, it is much more humane!

YOU GO TO A VET

PERIOD

LOOK IN THE PHONE BOOK

I assume you have a vet and have not been letting the dog suffer with pain as it aged!!

The best thing for you to do is to take it to the vet. The vet will do that for you if it is necessary. I know it is hard to do, but think of the dog, and how it is feeling.

Your Vet will do it. Any vet will do it. Its a common procedure. And its not mean if you're putting them out of their misery. And I'm sorry to hear your losing a pet. My pets are like my family.
