Are these the most uncomfortable aircraft ever. Had a four and a half hour ish flight back from Coz, Greece. I am of a big build (not fat that is) and six foot one. I have trouble fitting into aircraft seats anyway but those on that monach 757 were the worst, half the flight i had to stand by the door, you should have seen the touble i had trying to eat my food, complete joke, horrible aircraft

Hi there,
I spend alot (too much) time on aircraft travelling. The seats depend greatly upon the airline. Budget=squeeze, mid price=comfort (relative).
I know it's a fairly obvoius thing to point out, but look at the airline. If they are selling seats for £1, draw your own conclusions.
I use a website called Seat Guru (www.seatguru.com). It allows you to choose the aircraft by airline, and decide which is the best seat.
Once you have worked out the best seat/s, go to the airline and log in using your 8 digit reference number and surname. You can generally choose the seat online.
Hope these help.
Dan
BTW, try a flight from Manchester to Hobart in Tasmania. Stuck in the middle of a middle row on a 747 for the majority...and no luggage at the end. My advice...avoid Lufthansa !!!!!!!!

I have to agree with the majority of the comments... the seat pitch greatly depends on the airline NOT the aircraft.. the 757 is a fantastic plane but most (not all) charter airlines will put as many passengers as they can in one.. the B757-200 usually is configured single class to 235 economy seats which is a bit of a tight fit.. in future i should recommend you book emrgency exit seats in advance or travel First Choice as opposed to Monarch as they offer the best seat pitch for any charter airline. I have to say Thomas Cook's 757's are also very comfortable wherever you sit. Also Jet2 have now got 757's and they're confortable too...

I have to agree with yourpete
There's nothing wrong with the 757 - it's a great aircraft. If you fly on budget carriers such as Monarch, the seats will be uncomfortable regardless of the aircraft. These kind of airlines have a different configuration than the legacy carriers. In the future ask your travel agent to show you a seating plan for the various legs of your intended trip.

As a former flight attendant I can tell you that aircrafts and service has gone way down. It's apparent that every industry has cut back in order to increase their revenue. Some aircrafts (like to A300 or Airbus) have middle rows with armrests that can be moved up. Perhaps the next time you fly, you can find out what kind of plane and if they have this type of arm rest. Bear in mind, that sometimes the airline will change the type of aircraft depending on the number of passengers.

It all depends on how the interior is fitted. For example, many AA flyers hate AA 757's. United flyers can't talk enough about UA's 757s used for their "p.s." service. I believe Lufthansa's charter unit uses 757s outfitted with only business seats.
So it's more a function of the airline, not the aircraft. The one fault of the 757 is that there are WAY too many seats for being a single-aisle aircraft (which makes boarding a pain).

I don't like the way some of the airlines have their 757's set up. I enjoyed flying on Continental's 757-200 and Northwest's 757-300. TWA 757-200's were great also, at least until American took over them.

Its not the planes fault but the AIRLINE as THEY configure the seat size and layout etc. 757's are a very smooth plane but pick your carrier with care.

do not blame the aircraft - individual operators decide on what seats to install
