get yourself some vitamin E capsules, prick one of them open with a pin, squeeze some of the liquid onto your finger and apply to your lip... try and get to it as soon as you get that tickle feeling on your lip..(that means there is one on its way)also take some vitamin E to prevent it from coming back so often..trust me this works ive been getting these painful coldsores for many many years...i get it about twice a year. Also use Zvorax that helps too, but you have to get it the second it starts..

Try moistening it and hold a vitamin C tablet on it. It burns but it helps it to heal quickly. Vitamin A works too, poke a pinhole in a vitamin A capsule and use a bit of the oil several times a day. Don't use any of the "phenol" preparations on the market, they're drying but very toxic! If it's a true cold sore, it's caused by the herpes simplex virus & can spread so no kissing or drinking from anyone else's glass! Lol! Good luck!

Go buy some of the over the counter stuff to help with the pain and irritation but nothing can really make it go away... you're going to keep getting them for the rest of your life unfortunately... It's actually Herpes Simplex B (aka type 2) that causes "cold sores".... Unless you're around little kids a lot, then it could be Impetiago. Don't have unprotected oral contact with your partner's genitals because they could then develop Herpes Simplex A (aka type 1)... same virus just different locations.

Anectodotal evidence from a researcher I know at Harvard med:
try Glutamine supplements. I have no idea why, but it reduces the lifetime of cold sores and can even prevent their onset at the first sign of tingling (the prodome stage.)
Unfortunately, my friends lab hasn't ben able to isolate the cause of this... but everyone there uses this method.
go figure :)

Is it on your lip or inside your mouth? There are things that you could buy at a drug store to get rid of it faster... but it wont go away in a day..... sorry.....
