I will admit I play by my own rules and always have. My standards are that of a Universal morality and don't resemble the usual rules. I admit it. Maybe it is wrong. But I do this.

Excellent question. I don't have enough time to give as thoughtful an answer as I'd like, though.

This is based on the assumption that the person is reasonable and generally moral and law abiding.

When the rules are unfair (sometimes). Particularly traffic rules.
When others are cheating -- two wrongs don't make a right, but I'd have to consider the exact circumstances before I weigh in.
Government - hell ya!
Impossible - See answer re cheating.
Never - no no, there are times.
Life - perhaps. Circumstances.

Not so much if they're 'unfair' but if they are unjust. And one must only break the rules in the name of justice if one is willing to pay the price of that broken rule.

For example, there are people who feel it is morally unjust for the federal gov't to have income tax. So they have no money withheld, explaining, "I'll pay it in one lump some." Then they don't pay -- at this point, you have a very fine line between being a criminal and being a participant in civil disobedience.

The person claiming civil disobedience promptly goes to the local police department, peacefully, and surrenders him/her self to the law when the warrant is issued and they are notified, they plead guilty because they admit openly that they did what they did. Civil disobedience is not an excuse for civil disorder.

Criminals try to get away with it.

When a life hangs in the balance, for sure.

When the "rules" are ones put in place by a dictator for their own personal gain, with no semblance of fairness. But even then attempts should be made to CHANGE the rules, as opposed to BREAKING them (though you will likely ahve to break them to make a change).

There's only one real rule: serve life. That can never be broken. All the other "rules" are just guidelines.

When it is obvious that the rules are made to favor a certain group of people, which would lead to the exclusion of, or mistreatment of another group.
