I have another possible explanation.
Is she spayed?
Is she showing any symptoms such as lethargy, fever, not wanting to eat, drinking more than usual?
Either way, take a peek at her vulva. If you see any sign of any discharge, get her to the vet asap. If she is not spayed, she could have pyometra, an infection of the uterus, which is fatal if not treated. If she is spayed, she could have some type of vaginal infection.
Hopefully it is nothing and she will be fine, but be on the safe side. Take her to the vet.

What part of her crotch did this fall from? If is was from the anus, it is possible that your cat has tapeworm. If your cat has recently had fleas, that would be my first guess. You might check the places she likes to lay. If you find little things that look like grains of rice, then my vote is with tapeworm. They get tapeworm from eating flies and/or swallowing fleas. When the tapeworm sheds a segment, it comes out of the anus kind of moist and soft - looking like mucous. They dry to the rice-like thing I described. Pet Meds.com has tapeworm meds that you can buy without a vetrinary prescription. You should also consider treating your cat with something like Frontline or Advantage, to keep her from getting fleas again. These products are a once a month treatment, and save you tons of trouble.
