I have a daughter that is 12. Recently I found a bunch of my underwear in her drawers and she said that they came in her pile of laundry. But I know better. I asked her if she feels that her underwear are not "grown up" enough for her and she said yes. Maybe it is time to get away from the Fruit of The Loom Briefs? She has friends with parents who allow their 12 and 13 years olds to wear thongs, but I don't agree....any advice?

Personally I do not agree with young teens wearing thongs. But I can see where your daughter is coming from where she wants to have more "grown up" underware. There are plenty of stores out there,Walmart for example, that carry underware the is "grown up looking but not over doing it. Good luck with your daughter. I am sure this is one of those moments you are feeling like your little girl is growing up.

I have a daughter who is 11, and she is 5'5 1/2 inches, 120 pounds, long legged, j-lo butt and blond and blue eyed. I completely understand how you feel. She came to me about 2 months ago and said she wanted new underwear. I agreed to buy her the lower cut bikini underwear but they were still "hanes her way". This seemed to satisfy the situation for now. I don't allow her to wear makeup or any clothing I think is inappropriate but it is truly a challenge to find things she can wear. She is a tomboy (for the most part) and that helps some. She is just as happy target shooting and fishing as she is with "girly stuff" but I wonder how long this will last. Good Luck. I know it is hard, just know there are lots of us going through the same thing and you have to do what is in your heart and what you find acceptable.

I remember when i was 12 i wouldn't wear granny panties either. Work out something with her. Tell her you'll buy her new panties but she can't wear thongs until she's 16 or however you think is age appropriate for her. She's growing up you'll have to decide what's best for her while bending the rules a bit so she's happy too.

Let her get whatever kind of underwear she wants, hon. (Within reason, of course...no "hootchie kootchie" specials from Victoria's Secret, but not kiddy stuff, either.) Unfortunately, 12 is an awkward age...just a couple of years earlier you were tickled with Little Mermaid panties...but now you want the kind of underwear that you see Jessica Simpson prancing around in.
There are some battles worth fighting with your kids...but the kind of underwear she wears is not one, I don't think.

I don't think their is anything wrong with thongs unless she wants them to be showing them around.Just make sure that when she sits down she ain't showing her thong because that's not a good picture.And if you are not happy with thongs then maybe she should get cute modern underwear.

If my daughter wants to wear thongs, she will have to be old enough to buy and launder them herself. Which I am sure would have to make her an adult. What my adult children do is their choice. What other parents allow is their choice too. What do you prefer to allow is up to you and others should respect your choice too. You do not need others advice to decide what you want your child to wear. Set your own guide lines and respect your personal choices. Others children go by the rules in their homes, my children live by the rules in my home.

If you don't want her to sneak behind your back I think you should let her wear them, just to see how uncomfortable they are. When she comes to her senses I suggest you buy her some bikini underwear they are more comfortable and grown up.

Go with her and help her pick out appropriate panties. There are lots of cute styles that are not thongs. Give her a couple of options and let her pick.

just by her some prettier ones and if you think its wrong to use thongs then dont let her until she is older or whenever you want her to its just underwears whos looking?

Lacey boy shorts are great, pretty but not TOO sexy. or even little bitty bikni cut underwear, or hell something with pretty colors.
Victoria secreat sells regular brife panties, but they have the name on them, that might make her feel more grown up
