I found some rollmop herrings in my fridge. The label is all written in Polish, but at the bottom, "27/09/06" has been stamped. Should I eat them?

I think they are in vinegar, but the ingredients list is in Polish so without opening the jar to sniff I couldn't say for certain.

No never mess around with out dated fish or chicken.ok they may be pickled which preserves them but the date is for a reason. you dont want salmonella which is rife in the above

No, any fish that is out of date is really risky. you could get a real bad sickness. You came to the right place, cause i'm the seafood queen. And not only that, seafood is the worst food possible for food poisoning.

I would not eat fish thats out of date!! Throw it away not worth a day or two nipping to the loo!!

I would. They are not too far out of date and they are basically pickles, and they last for ages, even after sell by dates

Best before dates are only a guide so eat and enjoy

check out the ingredients first - if they have been pickled in vinegar they should be safe to eat
