I live in a small town, and in my highschool, practiacally EVERYONE drink here. My brother is in grade 12 and every weekend his friends have parties and stuff and drink beer until they are completely wasted. they smoke pot all the time too, and they drink while they are drunk or high. i hate it. is this normal?

The effects really depend upon how much you drink. You've noticed at least part of it: dizziness, reduced reactions... a sense of you 'turning your head...and then the room moves to catch up with it.' More drinking, and it gets worse - your coordination goes out the window, sense of timing is off, nausea, vomiting... The big thing to remember with alcohol is that, well, it's mildly poisonous. That's why it has the effect it does on the body - it impairs the mind, impairs the body. A little bit, and it relaxes - the same way how a small amount of a sedative will relax someone. A large amount, and you start dealing with tissue damage due to toxicity. Too much, and it'll kill. It's a depressant, in that it slows down your system. Have too much, and you'll simply slow your system until it stops. In the short term, a single bender runs the risk of immediate injury - vomiting, falling down, getting into a fight, car crash, etc, plus hangover, dehydration, and mineral/vitamin loss. On a longer term, you're looking at liver damage, addiction, etc. Personally, I'd recommend against it, and not only because it's most likely illegal where you are. That said, as others have pointed out, a lot of kids are involved in underage drinking - so while I might not call it "normal", I would say that it's not uncommon.

I grew up in a suburb of a pretty big city and by junior year of high school pretty much everyone I knew was drinking. The type of school did not matter either. Small and large, public and private, coed and all boys or all girls, everyone seemed to be hitting the sauce.

I wouldn't go as far to say that they all do it, but now a days it seems like the majority of kids in a town do. I would say yes, its normal, if you classify normal being what most other places would do.
