Nope that's not the reason. Unless she has diareaha, which would also dehydrate her.
My 20 month-old still poos 3-5 times a day ;-(
If she is peeing enough, then she is not dehydrated and there isn't a lot you can do. Some things you might try are limiting juice drinking. just have her drink water (and milk if you want), juice can have a laxative effect. Whole fruits have fiber which makes them a bit bulkier.
Amongst other foods, avocados and bananas have fiber and are really good for fattening up a baby too.

As to the whole poop thing...I would say yes it seems very normal to me. My son is now five and when he was little he was a poop factory, 3-4x per day. That being said, what makes you think that she is under weight? Are you going by the percentile ranges that the Dr gives you? If the Dr has no advice, I suggest you find another Dr, he should at the very least tell you that she is normal and nothing is wrong or have some kind of suggestion. Is she eating normally, is she overly fussy or dispondent in any way, has she become lethargic? I think you should definately find another pediatrician ASAP. If you are still not comfortable with their answer take her to a specialist. Is you she eating well, and what is she eating, maybe she needs a diet change or is allergic to something you are feeding here. Were you small as a child, are you below normal height/weight (ie considered petite)? It could just be she is a small baby. I would definately get a second opinion.

She (and everyone else) should poop at least once for every time she eats. If she's having three meals a day, then three poops a day would be normal. Really, it's not like breakfast says, "Hold up, y'all we gotta wait for lunch to catch up with us!". NOT having three poops a day would be abnormal.
If the doctor isn't worried about her being under weight, I'm not sure I would be either...The "normal" weight is nothing but an average, which means there are some above and some below. Every human is different, so unless she's acting like she's ill, I would just assume that's her body type, and move on.

My kids poop once or twice. But I have friends whose children poop like 4-5 times a day. One is 22 mos and one is almost 3 -- and they have always been this way. One is slightly underweight, one isn't. Both mom's are pretty health conscious, so I am sure the kids get a lot of fruits, veg, fiber. Maybe that has something to do with it?

All kids are different, just as all adults are different. Childrens digestive tracts are different. Some kids poo 2-3 times a day and some more or less. Also could be what you are feeding her. She could be receiveing too much fiber or fruit juice. My 3 y/o still poo's sometimes 3 times a day depending on what he has consumed the day before. Wait and see what your second opinion says. Then go from there. Good luck!!

I say this a qualifiyed and Expericened Nuresry assistant. 3 times a day sounds ok to me. So long as they are not unually large/small or inconsistent (eg constipation/the runs) then that is fine. The weight issue however, i cannot advise on as sometimes it may be just a case of a child not wanting to eat as they dont have a big apetite.

Are her poops normal color and consistency? Then don't worry about it, it's just how she is.
Are you underweight as well? Or perhaps slim? Then that may be why she is too.
I would lay off the juices and diarrhea type stuff, like raisins. Try for more cheese and peanut butter, things that bind. See if that helps a bit.

Was she sick alot as an infant? Did you give her a lot of antibiotics? Are the diapers runny? This happened with my nephew, and we found out that the antibiotics killed bacteria in his intestines that he needed to have normal bowels and to get the needed nutrients. Tell your doctor if your answers are yes. My nephew took a medication (sorry, don't know the name) for about two or three weeks, and his diapers cleared right up. Hope this helps!
