A pound of fat equals 3500 calories. To lose 1 pound a week you will need to expend 3500 more calories than you eat that week, whether through increased activity or decreased eating or both.
Just the extra walking may not be enough. It depends on how much you eat.

Yes, regular aerobic activity like this will definitely help.
But you shouldn't look at it as a magic bullet. Healthy, sustainable weight loss is generally made up of regular exercise (both aerobic and anaerobic) and reasonable, healthy diet changes.
If you add in 20-30 minutes of anaerobic exercise a week (doesn't have to be every day), like moderate weight lifting, squats, push-ups, crunches, the muscular activity for your full body will continue to burn calories even after you're through.
Combine that with a diet low on refined sugar, low on simple carbs like white bread, white rice, pasta and high on protein and vegetables (notice, no calorie counting, no minuscule portions, just a focus on healthier foods) and, of course, plenty of water each day, and you'll lose more weight than you thought possible.
And, you'll keep it off permanently...something crash and fad diet are unable to sustain.
It's worked for me. Best to you.

It depends what you mean by 'firm up.' How much weight would you like to lose? Walking yes. In addition you must watch you diet ... cut out the sugar, salt, processed foods, fasst foods, alcohol, etc. Cut out the soft drinks and drink lots of water with lemon. And you should also try to add some light weight exercises. Suggestion: For breakfast eat Quaker Oatmeal (Reduced Sugar) with Kellogg's Bran Buds. Eat salad every for lunch, with some fat free yogurt and some bran buds, almonds, and drink lots of water. Make it a lifestyle change and you can do it. I was in the same position as you. Put my mind to it and lost 46 pounds. Best of luck!

It will be a move in right direction.Eat less. Drink a lot of water, preferably warm.Supplement your diet with fruit. Eat less fat, butter is OK , olive oil also stay away from polyunsaturated and trans-fats.Avoid anything that is "reduced" has no sugar but artificial sweetener, eat raw salads vegetables,do not trust any diet that is pro missing results.Diet should be spelled with a D at the end not T.Fish is good little meat, but above all whatever you decided to eat, never think that it will make you fat,NO bless it and say "it is good for me".Your brain will pick up that order and will send the correct action to your body. Good luck.

I am trying to keep track of how many steps I take in a day, plus try and cut 100 caleries in every meal. You can find out this information on americanonthemove.org. I can't tell you if you will lose weight, but it doesn't help to try. Drink plenty of liquids too. Try and increase the steps you take everyday. Set goals.

If you don't eat like a pig.
HOWEVER - it's best to only lose two pounds a week AND change your eating habits, otherwise you'll gain all the weight back plus as much as 10 pounds.
Also, muscle weighs more than fat. Don't weigh yourself very often - measure your waistline to ensure you're losing fat and building muscle.

You can if you have been sedentary for a long time. Cut back on the calories and walk as fast as you can. Cardio is important if you want to lose fat and it isn't cardio unless you get and keep your target heart rate for at least 30 minutes. Talk to your doctor to determine what your target heart rate is and what is healthy for you to do.

You can as long as you are not consuming more calories than you are burning with the walking.
You need to combine less calorie intake along with the walking.
Also, the more strenuous/brisk the walk the more calories burned. Try a brisk pace, choose a route with some hills and/or stairs, etc.

Yes. But that has to be controlled with a steady low carb, low sugar, low fat diet. Otherwise the calories you burn from exercise get taken away by all the junk you eat.
Everything in moderation.

it depends to enable the body to start losing weight the amount of energy used during exercise and day to day activity has to exceed the input ie amount of kilojules eaten has to be less then the kilojules burned in activity and if it is your body will need to find the rest from somewhere so it takes it from fat reserves and hey presto you loose weight because you have less fat
