PLAIN WHITE VINEGAR! PUT YOUR DOG IN THE TUB AND JUST POUR VINEGAR ALL OVER HIM TRY NOT TO GET IT IN HIS EYES. DO NOT RINSE IT OFF. Vinegar neutralizes the musk of a skunk. Do not use tomato juice it doesn't work neither do the high priced de skunk shampoos. I use vinegar all the time as my dogs like to kill skunks. I can't get mine to drink the vinegar so I have to deal with bad breath for a while but the vinegar does work and it works well.

# 1 quart (or liter) of 3% Hydrogen Peroxide, H2O2.( just the household stuff)
Use fresh (unopened) hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). Hydrogen peroxide eventually turns into water (H2O).
# 1/4 cup (50 ml.) of Baking Soda
# 1 teaspoon (5 ml.) of Liquid Soap
* Combine the ingredients in an open container (do not store in a sealed bottle--it will explode).
* Using gloves, wash your dog with lukewarm water and the mixture while the mixture is bubbling. Work the mixture well into the fur.
* Be sure to concentrate on the area that was sprayed.
* Keep mixture away from your dog's face and eyes (it's a harsh solution). (If your dog has been sprayed in the face, try Tricotine Liquid Douche Concentrate or any over-the-counter douche.)
* Let the mixture stand for 10 minutes or so before rinsing off.
* Rinse the dog with lukewarm tap water. Don't wash the mixture into your dog's eyes (use a washcloth to cover the eyes if you're rinsing the head).

There is a product called BasicH2 that gets rid of the odor.My cousin has a hunting dog that had a face-off with a skunk and the skunk won.He tried every soap and lotion imaginable but nothing solved the odor problem. He used the BasicH2 to bathe the dog and the odor disappear. I use BasicH2 on my dogs all the time when they have baths just don't get it in there eyes.

My dogs used to get sprayed at least once a month. My vet told me a trick for the smell is to use the tomato juice and regular dish soap together. Somehow it lifts the oils from the skunk spray out of the hair and pores.
Good Luck!

We found that Original Irish Spring Bar Soap worked great on our dog, just be careful around the eyes...We used a soapy wash cloth around her face....She has been sprayed several times and we to used commercial skunk shampoos and they did not work, stumbled upon the Irish Spring due to the fact we had nothing else in the home....Good Luck!

My male mini dachshund got sprayed 2 times in the face to and my female mini dachshund got sprayed once in the face to. I gave them each a bath in clean water and poured tomato juice on them. I also put some pet deodorizer on them and it worked fine.

I used to work in an animal hospital and we had a lady with the same problem you do. Tomato Juice is the only thing. Put him in your bathtub and get lots and lots of tomato juice and rub it all over him. That's all there is........
