if radon kills more than second hand smoking, how come public places are not checked for radon?

I would think that unless there was a large number of deaths in a concentrated area, there is no reason for a company or the government to go crawling around the US to detect the levels of radon.

Besides, why spend money on radon investigations if all you have to do is blame it on smoking.. o.0
