I love the virgin Mary. As a Catholic, she is a very important figure in my religion as the mother of Jesus and the new covenant of God. I saw the question you are referring too, and it hurt me as well. It is awful to be disrespectful towards anyone in any religion (and I don't like the questions that call Mohammad names, even though I'm not Muslim).
Until I started on this board, I didn't know that the virgin Mary was also an important (or very well recognized) figure in Islam. Peace be with you, too.

I have to answer this question 2 ways. One, as a scholar, and two, as a devotional person.
As a scholar, I must admit that we really do not know a lot about Mary. In fact, it is impossible to prove that she was even a virgin. And there is even quite good evidence that the story of her virginity was made up several years after her life. Reliable sources about her life are very few. As a scholar, I could not really put a lot of stock in what the Quran says about her, because it was written so long after her death.
However, I am also a person of devotion and faith. And I believe that the character of the Virgin Mary is a beautiful character. Even if she is only a symbol (because we cannot absolutely prove anything about her in reality), she is a beautiful symbol. And there is nothing wrong, in my opinion, with admiring Mary and deciding to try to live a life of purity like her.
Mary symbolizes a very special type of love - the motherly love. That is one of the strongest bonds that exists between humans - that between a mother and child. And I have to say that she must have been a good mother, to have raised a son like Jesus.

I admire the blessed virgin Mary to the fullest. I believe in everything she stands for. The Rosary is an important factor in my life. I also think that all the disrespectful answers about Mary are intolerable. Jesus did ask God to forgive them for they know not what they do. May God be with you and I admire you for this question.

Those people who fall into the error of downgrading the Blessed Virgin are also (unwittingly or not) downgrading the very identity of Christ. She can't be elevated to exactly the same level as God, but she certainly isn't just any other mortal woman either. No other woman was prepared to submit to God's will and bear the Messiah as she was. She was utterly necessary to be who and what she was, so that Christ could be who He is.
Pray The Rosary Every Day!
(And if you do, you'll come to understand how Mary does play a very significant role in God's plan of redemption for this world.)

Thank you for defending our Blessed Mother (the Virgin Mary.) I am overjoyed to see that Muslims, too, see Mary as such a pure and holy lady. We Catholics also see her as such, but also as a powerful intercessor to Jesus, her son.

How awesome and scary it must have been for her when God chose her to be the Mother of Jesus and at the same time, she must have also felt honored to have been chosen above all the women in the world and then how awful she must have felt when she had to witness her own son's death. I admire her.

People don't all believe exactly the same things. Not even all Muslims share the same interpretation of their own scriptures. Differences of opinion are bound to happen and aren't necessarily a sign of intolerance. You have to allow others to believe what they believe.
As for Mary being a good role model--I'd have to disagree. We're told that she was a deeply faithful person, but there's little about how she treated her fellow human beings, whether she helped the poor, or whether she was an honest person. People may assume those things because of tradition, but there are not enough data for me to call her a good role model.

I've always seen the Virgin Mary as another face of the Great Goddess herself, as she appears to different people in different ways at different times, depending on what we need from her.

I believe she was the most blessed and trusted woman that ever walked on the face of this earth. First of all, this woman was married and STILL remained a virgin. God trusted her to carry and raise His son. How can I argue with God. If He trusted her that much, who am I to say He was wrong.

well, what's after God words?, God himself said this about her:
[42] And (remember) when the angels said: "O Maryam (Mary)! Verily, Allâh has chosen you, purified you (from polytheism and disbelief), and chosen you above the women of the 'Alamîn (mankind and jinn)
