Is it implied somewhere in the christian faith, if not in the bible, that you MUST stay in the same church? I have never heard such a thing even suggested before today, so the previous post about this shocked me terribly. What happens to you in your belief system if you leave your church? What happens to you in your belief system if you convert to a different form of christianity?

Honestly, if there's nothing in the bible about it, can someone please explain (their take on it/opinion, of course) where this belief would come from?

Let me clarify. There was a question up just a few minutes ago that was asking for the verse in the bible that said it was ok to leave your church if something wasn't right. I am a pagan, but I have several friends who ARE christian so just the insinuation upset me terribly.

One person remarked that leaving would be 'division'. I was just curious where this belief would come from and a little distressed to think some of the people I love may be 'trapped' (or at least feel that way).

I grew up in church. First, I was in Church of Christ ( all non-members and former members are hell-bound). When I left the Church of Christ to become a member of the International Churches of Christ I was told a lot of things by the COC preachers and members. One of which was "The International Church of Christ is wrong"
I won't get into all that though, isn't necessary.
Second, when I left the International Church of Christ, the members begged me to not leave, offered help and support, blah, blah, blah, anything to prevent me from leaving. After I left I contacted a member from the International Churches of Christ to let her know I was doing well. This is what she said to me:
"Of course you're doing well and happy now. Satan has won, he doesn't have to bother you anymore."
So, yeah some churches are positively outrageous and have forgotten the message they claim to teach and follow.
I can't tell you why, its anyone's guess. My guess is people make things up to suit their needs (especially churches and organized religion)
I just left when I saw that Icouldn't and shouldn't) have faith in a church.

Because churches are loosing many of their followers because of their scare tactics no longer work, hell and damnation I mean, people are more educated and are looking for truth and when they find it, they usually stop practising, I was born into catholism as a baby I was baptised, when I read the Bible I found out Jesus was baptised at 30 years the.

I just don't attend catholic services and haven't for years now, still I know I am a Christian because I believe in Jesus and His way of life, I find religions to be hypocritical, and favourites among the churches are the rich because they can give more when the plate is passed every Sunday, they even had boxes of enveloppes delivered to all the members so you could write your name and the priests would know who gave what, I don't think this is what God had in mind for His churches, I may be wrong, but I'd rather think of and read of Jesus' works and try and strive to live through Him. Peace be with you.

There is nothing in the bible, that I am aware of, that implies or states it. Some clergy will imply it does because they want to maintain power and control over members of a given congregation. If this is occurring, it would be a good idea to get away from that congregation and find another healthy fellowship or congregation. Your belief system should not be affected if its based on scripture and you maintain a healthy and committed relationship with Christ. Good luck!

I have no familiarity with any such verse. And I have a reasonable grasp of the Bible. You have the right to stay or leave your Church. Whether that is the correct decisoin or not is another matter. But certainly, you have the right to leave.

God bless,

If you wish to leave the church that you are now attending, it is customary to consult your pastor first. If you are saved, you cannot loose your salvation---do not let anyone tell you that you can. Not every church is right for every person, but church hopping is not a good thing to do either. Pray about these things.

You never ever need permission to leave any church.

Any such church that wont let you leave should be shunned and even shut down.

No church or religion or faith will ever limit me from exploring other faiths or churchs or facilities or whaever..

Whether to visit, or even to explore alternatives.

in my belief system, nothing happens if you leave your church, except you're free of it . . .

and nothing happens if you convert to another form or christianity . . .

the belief would come from a church that doesn't want it's members to leave

You do not need anyone approval or permission to leave or seek the truth.
