I spent quite a while this week carving out a very large pumpkin for a party this weekend... However; it is starting to get some mildew on the inside. I scraped it out but it just grew back. Is there anything i can do to stop this from happening? I dont want all of my efforts to have gone to waste. Thanks!

I live in florida, so it's really hot and really humid outdoors.

I would say keep it cool and keep it dry. Maybe pat it dry with paper towel and keep outside if it's cool enough. Mould likes the warm and damp to grow.

Wash your hands, tools, and pumpkin in anti-bacterial soap before you carve. This will help prevent mold. Once mold starts ona pumpkin, there is nothing you can do to save it.
Prolong a carved pumpkin's life by rubbing the inside of the shell and cut areas with petroleum jelly. If the pumpkin starts to shrivel, soak it in a sink full of water with a cap full of bleach. Soak for at least an hour. The longer the better. It will revive the pumpkin to almost as good as new and the bleach also helps prevent the mold. After you have soaked the pumpkin, make sure you thoroughly dry it inside and out! The water is breeding grounds for the mold.

Wipe with a solution of bleach and water. By the way, we have snow on the ground up north here in Saskatchewan! Happy tanning!

They rot fast. Cooler temps and dry areas is the best storage place. Maybe carve another one closer to halloween.
