If it is because of some religious belief, then shouldn't their individual beliefs be just as protected as your own?
(This is for everyone who will inevitably say that the Bible says it's wrong)

The religious right simply doesn't want to do ANYTHING to legitmize homosexuality. NOTHING. Their solution is "don't be gay, God hates it."

I know this is a lot of trouble over semantics, but for me it's about preserving the definition of the word marriage (and yes, I get it that a lot of straight people are messing that up pretty good as it is).

I really could care less if they have civil union, or anything that is essentially the same thing, I would just prefer they leave the word "marriage" out of it.

Okay, keeping the bible out of it, I think it's a slippery slope. If we change the definition of marriage to appease gays it's only a matter of years before cross generational marriages are okay too. What's that you ask? That's what John Mark Carr wishes he had with the Ramsey girl, a cross generational relationship. Anywhoo, years after that we are having cross species marriages and then who knows what. Why don't we just stick with what we know, straights get married, gays don't. Just be happy with what you've got and that you're not in Iraq where you'd be shot for being gay!

Marriage is a sacrament--just like baptism and communion. However, Baptism and marriage have to be documented by the courts. The courts witness the events. They have no jurisdiction over the envent, but to ensure that as a witness to a legal matter that the law is not broken. They are not the iniator of the instrument. The Church erred in recognizing civil unions and calling them marriages. By telling the courts that they recognize their civil unions, the churches opened themselves up to courts feeling that they can determine who can get married. Immediately, the church has to reclaim "marriage " as a sacred, not civil sacrament. The courts are free to call their civil matters whatever the want but the churches should ignore them.
God's word says. WHATEVER GOD PUTS TOGETHER--LET NO MAN PUT ASUNDER. Legitimate agents of God, anointed servants can act on behalf of God and He will recognize and bless their acts. When the devil encourages others to create mess and present them to God---sorry--God does not bless mess. God is no respecter of persons. As a person actively involved in deliverance--the most obvious manifestation of evil spirits are those that inhabited a parent or grandparent that takes over a child or grandchild of another gender. The child of one gender manifests the traits of the deceased parent or grandparent. Remember evil spirits feed on body fluids spilled in disobedience to God's word. Ever wonder why homosexuals and lesbians have so many nightmares? Ask one of them to open their eyes in the middle of a nightmare/night terror (Psalm 91) and tell you of their experience.

One who knows; one who has and continues to cast out many.

Well the Bible is very clear on it.
Why do they have to be "married" in the same way heterosexual couples are married?
And why should it be legal?

Lets leave religion out of this for a minute.

I'm a voter in the U.S.A.

I'm against it. I can't be wrong. this is a matter of opinion. We see how people's opinions are counted as votes.
.
Majority rules. It may come the day when majority will say OK. But right now, they say no.

Because, just as it is your right to have a same sex marriage, it is my right to disagree with it.
