I know what you're on about and I call it undercolour.
I think black looks a bit harsh against blonde hair, personally. Try a really dark blonde/brown with a blacky tinge, or go for a different colour.
Or maybe have black flashes (Like tiny bits of undercolour)? I have blue and purple flashes on my sides and back, and flashes are more versatile - i.e. They work on more lengths of hair - than simple undercolour.
I would get a blue undercolour, but my hair's not long enough.

Are you referring to having it one colour on top and the underneath black? I'd really recommend to go for brown rather than black, this would then be easier to remove if you did not like it. Also black against golden blonde - makes the blonde look brassy. I'd recommend going for a brown first.

I recently wanted to go light but was afraid of the consequences so i noticed this new hairdresser that had open end in Camden called FE HAIR STUDIO went in and spoke to a stylist who sat me down and went through everything she took a good 15 minutes explaining and i did not pay for the advice. I decided to get my hair done like she said and now i am so pleased with the result, and it was not expensive.

Hi I think its called half and half, I had it done about two years ago, and I'm still trying to get it out of my hair. The top is a lush creamy blonde but the underneath is still brassy. Its up to you but If I were you I'd just buy some black fake hair and clip it into your real hair and if you get bored you can just take the clips out. Good luck, Hayley-May. :-)

I would do it black if i was you. Go for a brown it will look a lot better and be easier to get it back to blonde if you got bored. Just tell the hairdresser what you want, i am sure they will know what you are talking about.

I don't think there is a specific name for that. However, I would suggest thinking twice about the black. It takes a long time to get it back to blonde. Also, don't do the entire bottom half of your head. Do just the bottom 1/3 portion of your hair.

My hair is blonde with dark brown underneath. I got 2 shades of blonde highlights and brown fully underneath. Looks amazing!

seriously dont go black straight away.
you cant dye over it if you dont like it and it never washes out
please do it dark brown first to see if you like it.
there was a teenage girl in the salon yesturday crying coz she did what you said and she couldnt get used to it.
we had to strip her hair of colour and re-dye it blonde. her hair will be so dry she has to have deep conditioning treatments every week she is already booked in.
plus it'll only look good with light blonde hair. golden will look a bit wierd.
please please try dark brown first

I've seen plenty of blond girls with black underneath. I always thought it was the natural colour growing back.

don't do it.... i did it when i worked at nordstrom 4 years ago, and it was super cool for awhile but then it gets really old. especially when the black starts too fade and get dingey... kind of icky. i am not saying that it isnt cute initially, but the novelty wore off. if you are going to do it anyway, then go to some place like toni and guy or a high-end place that knows trends and what they are doing.
