Eccles cakes are made with puff pastry, have a sugary coating and are filled with currants.
Chorley cakes are made with short crust pastry and the currants are embedded in the pastry.
We used to call Eccles cakes fly cemeteries.
Geographically, Eccles is still in Lancashire.

Not a lot :)
Eccles cakes are made with thin flaky pastry and given a sugary coating on the top. Chorley cakes are made with short pastry and are dry on top. The filling is similar - curranty!
(And Chorley is in Lancashire and Eccles is in Greater Manchester)
