At age two, a child begins developing the ability of long term memory, as exampled in that they start to get into everything. They only learn things through repetition, both what we consider good and bad. Children have no concept of either and don't begin developing it until puberty.
As such, you don't explain your faith to children, as they will not understand it. What you do is read the Bible, the whole Bible, to them. You teach them the knowledge of the Bible. They will not understand it until they develop conceptual thought process, but by than, they will have gathered a base knowledge of the Bible. That is what Mary and Joseph would have done with Jesus, since he had no knowledge of his pre-existence until he turned 30 and was baptized. After puberty (age 12), he began developing conceptual thought process and an understanding of what he had been taught. Granted, he did so much fast, because of his genetic makeup, but he still learned it the way everyone should, from his parents.

I have a 11 year old son, I was going to wait until I thought he would understand better, the little stinker found a Bible in the Library at school and read parts of it and then would 'sneak' a Bible at home and read it. So when I went to talk to him about Religion he told me he was already a Christian because he read the Bible, I questioned him on this and he told me of the Bible in the Library and the one at home, so I got a pamphlet about "How to become a Christian" and we Read it together. Only then did he realize the magnitude of what Jesus went through.
My daughter 12 1/2, I have been talking with her already, she's older, more mature. Also more difficult. She already a Bible, I need to take my son to let him get a Bible.

I have four children, all adults now. I didn't explain my religion to my children, I live my life in the way that they could see it for themselves. Worked out much better. Did take them to church, etc., but all that and a hypocritical life would have been a lie. kids spot lies real quick.

My children are already being introduced through children's studies with a children's bible and I pull bible pages down off the internet for them to color to go along with what I am teaching them. We have been doing this for about 3 years. My kids are 7 and 5

Never if they want to find out about religion, they can find out about it themselves. I want tie them down to one religion. I will let them explore the different religions and let them find one that matches there personal beliefs.
I won't impose my beliefs on them.
Religion is personal thing to me.
Well at thats what's going to happen when I have kids.

Unfortunately for me, I started too late. My mother-in-law had a sit down with my 5 year old (he was 4 then) and told him all about HER religion. So now if I bring up something I believe in, it all ends up with what about Jesus and heaven. I do not believe in Jesus or heaven, so you can imagine how difficult this is for me.

when I have them. lol.
Inshallah.
I think the best way to teach them is through example. If you live Islam everyday, then it becomes a way of life for the kids too.
anyway, this is just big talk from someone who's not even married. just my opinion :D

I think your avatar is beautiful. I already started teaching them the basics, and my girls are 4 and 2. The toddler just thinks it fun to clap her hands and wiggle/dance to any songs we sing! And she thinks it's fun to pray at mealtime - she says "Tay hoo for mommy's food an' daddy's food an' Heena's food and my food and" (then she repeats it all over again). Heena is not the name of my 4 year old, but that is how it sounds when my 2 year old tries to say it. :o)

as soon as they are born... I will thank god for them. and then talk about god and jesus in ways they can understand - go to sunday school etc - children are sponges and I plan to sxpose my children to many religions so they can chose on their own as adults, whats best for them.
