Im interested in the new Ford Ikon Flair(1.3). It has got good looks and seems good value for money with competitive pricing. No other car in that segment offers so many featurs in that price. But have heard some not so good feedback about the car ranging from high maintenance/costly spares/low mileage/old technology/ etc etc. Esteem and Indigo are not that good. I can upgrade to Accent GLE which is about 50K more, but it has some basic features like central locking etc missing though it has 1.5 litre engine. But am confused if it is worth buying. My budget is 5.0-5.5 lakhs. Any suggestions.

I would think twice about the Ikon because it is an old tech engine. We call them Pushrods. The Esteem and Indigo have SOHC (Single overhead CAM) engines, even in the Indigo Diesel, with reasonably sophisticated ECUs. I'm not a big fan of the Accent either. Despite its good engine it feels like it has been built for Fat but not tall Koreans. The leg room is very cramped in both front and rear. In its class the Indigo offers the most leg room and the most cruising power, but it is a little slow off the blocks, more so in the Diesel version.

Maybe you should wait a few months, earn a little more money and purchase the Fiesta or the Aveo.

obviously you are interested in an icon. then why to bother? it is reasonably good. besides it is always better to go for a car you like than what the experts say. take a test drive of icon, petra, indigo, accent etc and find out which is more comfortable to live with. any way all of them except flair are going to have face lifts in 2007. so you may not regret your decision.

Ask the dealer to install fog lamps, hyundai security system with central locking facility and a digital clock.
Its done to a friend of mine when he got a GLE.
So dont worry about central locking.
The car comes with power steering, the steering is tiltable, power windows on all doors, rear defroster, head lamp leveller ,day night rear view mirror and internally adjustable rear view mirrors.
So I suggest you to buy Accent GLE.
