It is strange that American capitalism has conquered the world. I think that it's shameful that you can buy useless luxury items like Coke in countries where the average person doesn't have clean drinking water.

I'm a total coke addict... I actually drank half of a 2litre bottle yesterday and I never drink less than a can a day...
I think a lot of us are just brought up on it - it's like the standard drink you get in restaurants and cafés (and even though a lot of the times it's Pepsi or some other "fake" cola, they still call it coke). The taste is ingrained in my brain... It's kinda like religious indoctrination - get 'em young!
In the developing world, I think Coke run very effective advertising campaigns which make it seem like an aspirational drink: "if you wanna be like Westerners, drink Coke" - that's the subliminal message. And despite the hostility towards US policy in a lot of the world, US culture is still to a large extent global culture. US culture sells. Everywhere.

It is the most recognizable logo on earth. You can go anywhere and find a Coke machine. Maybe that is part of its popularity. Familiarity is comforting.

Biologically speaking....LOL!
Seriously, I don't care much for Coke or any other soda pop. Far too sweet for my taste. But I know what you mean. The general population is so easily suckered into consuming whatever they think is popular whether good for us or not. Marketing is a powerful weapon whether for soda, cars, wars....

Coca Cola consists of some ingredients that make us get used to it very fast. And we can stop drinking it because we always feel thirsty after having drunk it!

I reckon there'd be loads of products that would be like that if the companies had the money to market them so heavily.
