hi,
I heard about Caviar in so many US movies. And has always wanted to try it out...But i have never seen it in the supermarkets.,or maybe i didnot pay attention to the shelves whenever it was available...
,,,So where can they be bought, preferably in London or in UK (if there is a service online) and is there a grade of Caviar to differentiate the not so good one and the finest one?

Thanks.

The food halls in Harrods, Fortnum and Mason and Harvey Nichols all sell it. From what i can remember Red cavier tastes the nicest. But i ate a mini amount on a blini thing.

In my experience, the fixings are just as important as the caviar. Chopped Onion, Chooped Egg, Capers, Bellini Crepes, Sour Cream and even a nice chilled Vodka are all key in making your caviar experiece a good one.

Hint: A place like this sells good stuff so it doesnt matter if you get the best stuff around at 5x the price. Go withg something entry level and work your way up over time. Go with what you can afford. You will be happy. Make sure you talk to the people there about selecting the right fixings and how to prep them for serving

Best of luck!

Most up scale supermarkets will only shelve the stuff around the hollidays. The rest of them don't even bother. Otherwise you need to check a good fish store or a store that does delicacy food. Personally I think it's way overrated. It doesn't even taste that special. Some people even thinks it tastes bad. Just remember one little tip. Never use a metal spoon to take out the caviar. For some reason caviar reacts to it and develops a foul taste. Use a plastic or wooden spoon. Or some really fancy stores can sell you special spoons made out of bone.

In London there are loads of places to buy caviar, any good supermarket will sell it, or go to harrods, but take your life insurance policy with you.

supermarkets don't sell caviar the (proper stuff) because it's so expensive you can get fish eggs from lump fish it's cheaper, check the net to narrow this down or when out for dinner (good restaurants) ask the chef if you buy some from him add a beer to his price and away you go!

why dont you order it online? try this online store. but its a waste of money IMO, just get roe from the chip shop - that tastes kindof the same. Its fish eggs from a different kind of fish.
