My friend has come down for the weekend and I have only lived here a month and I want to go out for drinks somewhere a bit different. All suggestions welcome? I live south but we will head anywhere in zones 1 and 2

A boat on the river? Head for Embankment tube station and make your way down to the river.

Actually, that is really tame... head for the Red Rose club in Finsbury Park - the best comedy venue in the capital. Might be a bit far for south of the river, so perhaps Jongleurs in Battersea?

If you live south two places that a re great and a little different are South Pacific Bar in Kennington which has a great tiki vibe and authentic cocktails,or if your feeling brave try the Great Vauxhall Tavern, a cooky vaudeville bar/pub with great cheap champange £10.99 a bottle!! On mondays that do Chick and Dick Bingo and Thursday nights a vaudeville burlesque and comedy night, if you dress up they let you in free, they have a website if you google them! Good Luck!

If you like cocktails go to TGI fridays in picadilly circus. Theres also a good Aussie bar in Finchley road just outside the O2 centre. Turn left when you get out the tube station there, just 2 mins walk from there.

go to shoreditch by city.
you have the elbow room (pool bar)
333 (awsome club 3 levels)
some examples
the neighborhood is very laid back and there is a lot to do.
there is hardly any dress code so dont worry.
