Considering laser eye surgery?

I'm considering laser eye surgery but confused about all the options out there. I've been to a consultation, but I always get scared and back out when I see the possible complications.

I am short sighted (-3.00) and usually wear accuvue contact lenses or, for the computer, some glasses.

My question is: Optical Express, Optimax or Accuvision?
Lasik, Lasek or Wavefront?
I want value for money, but more important is for it to work the first time, to last and for it to be as pain free as possible.

Has anyone had laser eye surgery here? Any advice most appreciated!

Ive been to optimax in finchley road. I only had a consultation but they were very good, i also saw a guy there who had just had it done and he said it was the best thing he ever did. The possibility of something going wrong is very remote. Both lasik and lasek are safe but the optician will advise you whihc is best according to the health of your eyes.

I work for one of the company's you have named(OE)and have been working in this field for nearly 5years. Your prescription is an average one, and I would expect you to get a good result 1st time. It's true that there are complications that can occur, but as the technology is so advanced now the likelihood of them occurring is very slim indeed. If pain is your main concern then rule out LASEK. This is done on the surface of the eye, which is the most sensitive part, and discomfort can last for up to 36hrs and can range from very slight, to downright nasty.It also takes a few days for your vision to clear to an acceptable level, and varies up to 2wks to get 20/20.It is, however, the safest, as we aren't actually operating on the eye.LASIK actually involves doing a very fine corneal flap, which does involve a tiny amount of surgery. We do the treatment deeper down in the cornea, which tricks the eye into thinking it's had nothing done. There is a small amount of discomfort, which lasts for about 4 hrs, but the next day-wow!!The flap can be created by a device called a microkeratome(a fine blade), or we can actually create it using a laser called intralase. This is much safer & eliminates most of the scary risks that you hear about. Wavefront isn't actually a surgery, but a type of laser treatment. A scanner creates a "fingerprint"of your eye which is about 25times more accurate than an opticians prescription and creates a unique treatment designed for you. It is slightly more expensive than standard treatment, but cuts down on potential after surgery problems, such as glare or haloes, and is useful,especially if you do a lot of night-time driving.The overall treatment anybody gets always depends on what the optician and surgeon find at the consultation.

I had laser treatment last Sep and, if you pardon the pun, i've never looked back.

I went with Optimax and i can't fault the care they gave me. Orginally i was looking at the lense implants (really bad astigmatism), but after the consultation the surgeon said i would benefit more from Lasik.

So i would go for the consultation. Be honest that your really worried, they must deal with that all the time. If the company is worth dealing with then they will talk you through all the options and give you time to decide.

I have to say again though, it WILL be the best money you have ever spent if you get it done.

I had it and I have have never looked back(groan!). Seriously it is the best thing you'll ever do.I was embarrassed by wearing classes that I avoided them for 15 years. I wore them for10 years but they are so expensive I thought laser surgery must be better. I used optical express. They had a free no obligation preliiminary check which helps and I was'nt pressurised afterwards by sales people. I don't think you have a choice between Lasik and Lasek.Lasek is only suitable for some people and I wasn't suitable for it for one. It is painless.Indded the girl before me was done three times as it wasn't done right so pain can't be bad.

I am also seriously thinking about getting it, I have done a lot of reading and asking people who had it done, the only thing stopping me is there is no clinic in Devon, its either Bristol, the closest or Croydon which is close to my son. Optimax is advertising on Ebay and cheaper than their website and has lots of answers, at -3 you are ideal for epilasek, I am -8 so has to have lasik probably, wish we could go together and hold hands!

i'm having laser eye surgery soon but i'm going to india to have it done because its cheaper even with the flight costs and they have a much higher success rate than they do here in England which is rather strange as India is a relatively poor country. Good luck
