G-d breathed the breath of life into man and made him a living soul,and gave him an eternal spirit.
The soul is the living body,the eternal spirit is what some unknowingly refer to as the soul.

Simply put, the soul is you. With all your thoughts, dreams, desires, intelligence and life. If you are alive, you are a live soul. If you are dead, you are a dead soul. The soul is not part of you - it IS you.
Genesis reads: Adam became a living soul. He was not given one. He became one. Even animals are souls.
