What the law says about your experience is that if you order the food, you must pay. The fact that you didn't like it or even if it was spoiled doesn't come into play. It also seems unlikely that the restaurant served EVERY dish in a spoiled condition.

Even so, a manager who is cogiznant of customer relations and who would have, at least, SOME idea of customer service, should have made some effort to listen to your family's complaint and try to compensate, in some way. That might have included a refund of some money paid, or an offer of no charge for the spoiled food.

You, of course, can complain to the local health department, but there is nothing they can do about your meals. If they take your complaint seriously, they may decide to reinspect the restaurant, but if they don't find anything at the time of the inspection, there is nothing else they can do.

What MIGHT be more effective is to lodge a complaint with the local Better Business Bureau, and the local Chamber of Commerce. These organization may have more influence on the restaurants reputation.

Sharing your experience with friends is also an effective way of doing something. You protect your friends from a bad experience and you make sure the eatery does not get any of their money.

By the way, you mentioned something about asian lady talking about you behind your back. What ever was going on at your table was obviously loud enough to attract the attention of a security guard from outside the restaurant. I'd probably be looking over my shoulder, at you, and whispering about what was going on, in my language. THAT part of the story had nothing to do with your problem, and shows a bit of paranoia, at best, or a taste of latent raceism, at worst.

Would you have felt any better if they had been talking about you in English?

I'd make a report to the Better business bureau and file a complaint with the health department. As for not paying for a service... You have to pay for the service's you recieved.

Both of you should call the health department in your area. I have never heard of any restaurant being so gross. It should be shut down and obviously they don't have much of a flair for customer service either!

You do have to pay for your meal, good or bad. However, you should report the incident. Bad food is a good way to get sick and they need to be stopped before one incident becomes a major case of food poisoning.

Call you local Health Department, sometime there is nothing they can do but they should look into the place. And they can tell you if they have had any other complaints.

every place at one time or another has bad service. and no it's not a law that you get your meal free if you don't like it, if that was the case people could eat a little and complain they didn't like it.

As well it should be - shut down. We are already "unaware" of whats going on in these resturants, and to know exactly and not do anything about it is criminal in itself!
