The eucharist is only a form of bread (pastry-- without leavening) until it is blessed during the communion service. In some denominations it would be considered a sin to eat the bread after it has been blessed. A few denominations believe the eucharist is "transmuted" into the body (or flesh) of Christ, so they would be even more offended. David and some of his soldiers were hungry after a battle, so they ate the "shewbread" in the tabernacle. The priest seemed to feel that was wrong, but I don't remember that David suffered any penalty.
My mother baked the "eucharist" for our small church for many years (the recipe has limitations on the ingredients). She put the dough in a pan about 9" x 12" then rolled over it with a modified noodle cutter to make appriopriately small squares about 3/4" x 3/4" .
The church members liked the flavor of her product and would often ask for some to snack on while visiting our house. For those snacks, she ran over the dough with a pizza cutter so the pieces for snacking were about 1" x 2" A convenient web site for research is www.biblegateway.com

Eucharist = "true christ" or body of Christ.
This refers to transubstantiation or the wafers actually *becoming* the body of Christ. This is - once again - a Catholic thing, and not something recognized by the rest of Christianity.
Jesus said "do this in memory of me" The rest of us practice communion as a memorial - the way it was intended.
I've actually seen Matzoh or oyster crackers used for this because, after all it's just symbolic.
So YES, if you're hungry before or after the ceremony, I'm sure some Matzoh with dip (butter is great too) would be really tasty.

I had a friend who used to dress up as a priest and go to goth clubs and sell eucharist wafers with acid on them.
I don't actually believe in hell, but I've gotta say, if there's anyone who's going, gotta be that guy.
;)

LOL...thats a good question. I used to love those lil wafers!!!! The meaning of the whole thing kinda got lost in the taste though.
I wonder if its still bad if you eat them before they do the blessing on them????

when i read this question i started laughing. However, i think its disrespectful only if they have already been blessed. the pieces of bread are blessed before people in church eat them. so if they have not been blessed then its ok...they are just pieces of bread. But if they have been blessed its the body of Christ, u shouldnt snack on them.
