I have really (really) long black hair. If I cut it short I'd have major poof. I have a dry scalp but the rest is really greasy (ew, I know.) It tangles SO easily. Please, what can I do? Pretty soon I'll end up like a lunch lady in a hair net. Please, for the sake of the public....

Try plaiting for some time , it will straiten out and at the same time expose you hair to fresh air then all the grease and dryness will find a meeting point,.Also wash periodically with shampoo i mean loosen after plaiting for some time and wash.
please don't cut. It's even cheaper to maintain this way and you'll look beautiful .
Try it and be happy!

Do you have a dry scalp or dandruff? Dandruff isn't usually caused by a dry scalp. I would pay a little money, go to an ok salon, and ask them what the best cut is for you and how to take care of it. Tell them everything you just said here. I don't think cutting it a little would make it poofy. There may be something they can do with layers that will really help. Good luck.

I'm not sure. If you try a shampoo that really cleanses the hair, it will make your scalp too dry. I'd have to suggest going to a salon (maybe a pro salon, they would have better products for your hair and know what to use) and see what they could do with the cut and products.

Hope this helps.

maybe you should cut it like medium length, and there are many shampoos that can cure dry scalp and greasiness. Try Dove shampoo, Tresemme (sp?) or Suave, or even herbal essences. Those work miracles, and if you cut it short, get a sort of conditioner or shampoo that guarantees no frizz.

The safest thing for you to do is to check with a reputable hair stylist. Do not start trying all kind of suggestions on yur hair. Please don't do as I did. I listened.I tried. I wish I haden't. I ended up having to cut off 26 inches of my hair. Like you , if mine were shorter it would want to curl.

Try having it fashionable layered. It will make a huge difference in style and maintenance.

Since you don't want to cut it I don't know what to tell you. You can always waste away your money trying worthless products.
