I meant, do mean typically wear an engagement ring? I thought they just wore the wedding band (after the wedding).

You can do that. When my husband asked me to marry him. We both got rings and wore them while we were just engaged. We used the rings as both a engagement ring and a wedding ring. It hold a better meaning to us that way. Our rings even match. I don't have a traditional ring. We see it as two hearts becoming one. Why do we need two rings? So yes, do what is meaningful to you!

Today some women opt to buy their fellow a ring. I bought mine one. Nothing expensive as he has difficulty wearing one in his job. He says he'll be able to wear a wedding band, but I'm not so sure.

It is dangerous to wear a ring in some occupations, and not permitted; allowing it to be worn on special occassions, like when you go out together.

I recently was told about a woman engaged who chose a plain white gold band as her engagement ring. Others wondered were the stone was!
It is your engagement, your wedding. Do it your way.

It's not traditional for the man to wear the engagement ring if he proposed to her. Wedding bands, yes.
