Rob B 69's suggestion might be the way to go. Lambrusco is a sparkling red wine...but the Italians nowadays make a lambrusco especially for export to the US...it's much sweeter than is traditional and amongst themselves they call it lambruscola. That's one place to start, the other is the 'table reds' usually sold in jugs or boxes. Also, in any region in the US that produces wine, usually you will find a sweet red. I'm in the finger lakes, NY, and we makes tons of the stuff...in fact, just 30 years ago, that was pretty much all we were known for. Now we make dry white vinifera wines that make Germany sweat. But there will always be Carlo Rossi and Peter Vella for people who like sweet, approachable wines. Also, wine in boxes seems to keep forever, and at the lowest price per unit volume, are very attractive.

Cheers!

Get a table wine, or a wine that's a blend of different grapes. I have a bottle of wine (Red Huron by St. Julian's winery) that's pretty drinkable, but I don't know if that's available outside the midwest. I'd call it medium-sweet, pretty drinkable with dinner. It's not a dessert wine, either; I don't drink those, but I think they're typically pretty sweet to go with dessert. There's a danish cherry wine called Kijafa that's really sweet, like a dessert in itself.
