Samsung LCD's have been getting good reviews and I have was told by a sales person that they have the majority of the marketshare now. However, the new Sony 1080p TV's look awesome. Samsung's are a couple hundred dollars cheaper and are really good too though. Either choice is a good one, just make sure the TV you buy has all the connections you want and will need in the future. Samsung 720p TV's have 2 HDMI's and the Sony 720p TV's still only have one while their 1080p 40 and 46 inch TV's have 3.

Sony doesn't make plasmas any more. Samsung still does make plasmas.
Regarding LCDs, Samsung supplies Sony, so essentially they are the same. However, the video processing and other electronics are different (and, of course, packaging).
They are both good brands. Take a look at them at places like Circuit City. Look at Sharp and LG/Philips also.

I'd go with a Samsung LCD if I had to choose between the two. However, I agree with the person that said Toshiba is best.
