condensed tomato soup

I have never made it, and I don't think I'll want to eat it! Since I have a Campbell's cookbook, I thought I'd give you their recipe.
Introduction - "This moist spice cake was first made with canned tomatoes, but the tomatoes were replaced by soup in the 1920s, not long after condensed tomato soup was introduced into the marketplace. Since that time, this basic recipe has changed very little, but it has been transformed into a fruitcake, pineapple upside-down cake and a microwave cake."

"Tomato Soup Cake" - 16 servings

2 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/3 cups sugar
4 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 1/2 teaspoons ground allspice
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
1 (10 3/4 oz.) can condensed tomato soup
1/2 cup shortening
2 eggs
1/4 cup water
Confectioners' sugar

1) Preheat oven to 350*. Grease and flour 10" bundt pan.
2) Into large bowl, measure all ingredients except confectioners' sugar. With mixer at low speed, beat until well mixed, constantly scraping bowl with rubber spatula. At high speed, beat 4 minutes, occasionally scraping bowl. Pour into prepared pan.
3) Bake 1 hour or until toothpick inserted in cake comes out clean. Cool in pan on wire rack 10 minutes. Remove from pan; cool completely. Sprinkle with confectioners' sugar.

I've never made a tomato soup cake, but I did make a green tomato cake with another women a little while ago. If you like anything like carrot cake or zuchinni muffins, you should like them.

Althought I don't really like tomato soup, i'm sure it would turn out wonderful. Try allrecipes.com, or googling a recipe.

You can't taste the tomato at all. It is very moist. Have you ever had carrot cake or zucchini bread? You don't taste the veggies there either. It is the same idea. What is the worst that could happen? If you don't like it, at least you will have tried it. Be adventurous, you will find many things that don't sound like they would work, but they taste wonderful - for instance chocolate covered bacon is absolutely amazing! Go for it!

Yes! Tastes like a spice cake. One of our favorites growing up.
Be sure to try it and don't forget to use cream cheese frosting!

Thanks to those who posted the recipe, I've always been curious about that - does that count as a veggie serving as well as dessert?
